Don't worry, dear readers. Darius' POV will be available tomorrow. Thank you for reading! -JNS <3
DARIUS POV One minute, I’m uncovering hidden secrets about my brother. The next, I’m feeling the intense, and all-too-familiar pull of the full moon. The mate bond. My wolf is pushing forward, trying to take control. He is fighting me more than last month. “Are you okay, Darius?” Lucas asks me with a combination of confusion and concern. All I can do is nod. I struggle against the urges of my wolf and practically run out of my office. I hear Lucas right behind me. I’m briefly forced to the back of my mind. When I regain control, we are standing outside the building that holds the dungeons. I begin pacing back and forth, my hands running through my hair. “She’s here…” I growl. “Who is here?” Lucas asks. “My mate. She is here. In the dungeons,” I say angrily. I’m angry at myself for having my mate locked up. I am also angry at her still. She lied to me over and over. I don’t know if I can truly trust this bond. My wolf is going crazy, fighting me for control to find our
DAYA POV Emotional rollercoaster doesn’t come close to describing the last 48 hours. Perhaps emotional pendulum? We have swung back and forth, from one extreme to another. Yet, it seems like that suits our journey. We have both lost so much and were gifted with so much hope and promise with this mate bond. It makes sense that we both would be hesitant to trust the bond, much less each other. I certainly didn’t help matters much by trying to deceive Darius. Never again. This man has proven time, and time again, that I can trust him, and that he is willing to trust me, even after I hurt him. My feelings for Darius become even stronger as he ravishes my body. My Goddess, this man, and his tongue could save the world if oral sex was the key to happiness…well, it may just be. But I refuse to share him, or that skilled tongue with anyone else. The world can implode around us, and as long as Darius is between my legs, I’d die happy, and oh, so satisfied. As I come down from my intens
JUSTIN POV I’m in a small, musty gym. Surrounded by rusty barbells, old sandbags, and gym equipment covered in a film of dust. It isn’t much, but it is what I have available to me here, at my current home. Or, at least where I am staying until I win my title as Alpha of the Running River Pack. I slam a heavy medicine ball onto the ground, imagining that it is Darius’ body. A sadistic grin spreads across my face as my brow is dripping with sweat. “You don’t want to wear yourself out for tomorrow. Take it easy,” says the familiar voice of wisdom, who has become more of a father figure to me over the years. I look up at him as I scoop up the medicine ball. My chest is now covered in a layer of sweat, mixed with dirt and dust from the old equipment. “Just getting in a short session to help settle my nerves,” I reply to him as I slam the ball down to the floor again. He walks over to me and clicks his tongue. That’s his way of signaling disapproval. I tense knowing I’ve said the w
DARIUS POV I wake up early in the morning, feeling the light rays of the sun over my eyelids. I feel her warm body curled into mine. I hear her light breathing and her heartbeat is steady, matching my own. Her face is pressed into my chest, and I can feel her starting to drool on me. I try to hold back my laughter, so I don’t wake her. I gently stroke my hand through her hair, which is pretty messy after our evening activities. I replay the moment we looked into each other’s eyes and said we loved one another at the same time. That moment only confirms that we were made for each other. We didn’t mark each other last night. I know I wanted to, and my wolf was clawing at the front of my mind to put our mark on her beautiful neck. But we still don’t know what will happen if we complete the mate bond. Is the Fated Plague really over? I’m not ready to risk Daya’s safety and I don’t need to mark her to know that she is totally mine. I feel her beginning to stir and I wrap my arms tig
DAYA POV Darius stood up once we heard alarms, and I could see his eyes glaze over from mindlinks coming through. No doubt it was the warriors warning us that Justin has arrived for the challenge. He returned his attention to all of us in his office, and he takes my hand in his. “It’s time,” he says to me. I nod my head and follow him out of the office followed by the others. “Justin can’t see you with me. He needs to believe you’re still in the dungeon,” he says as we approach the first floor of the pack house. Emmy comes up next to me and tugs me in the opposite direction of Darius. “We will shift and run to the clinic. " We will stay out of sight until the challenge is over,” Emmy says, leading me away. “Saph, Amy, and Pearl?” I ask her. “They are safe in my apartment. They won’t come out until the all-clear is given,” she tells me, giving me a small sense of relief. I quickly turn around and grab Darius’ hand once more. He stops and looks down at me, squeezin
DARIUS POV Three. I’ve only fought three of Justin’s lemmings so far and I’m huffing and puffing. They are not as skilled as me. Not even close. But they are quick and unpredictable. The second fighter slashed me down my ribs, and even though I was able to rip his throat out seconds later, he still got me. Before I could fully heal, the third challenger, Danny, my own pack member, stepped forward and lunged at me. He was a strong guy. I didn’t want to kill him. I was able to knock the first guy out. But the second challenger and Danny didn’t give me the option. I shift back to my human form, blood coating my face and neck. The slash on my ribs is almost completely healed. But I’m already tired. The fourth challenger steps forward. He announces himself and that he’s challenging me. I don’t listen to his name. This is all a game to Justin. This is not a game. But I have no choice, I have to play. I look back quickly at Lucas and Aurelian. I can tell they are ready to shift and fig
DAYA POV I find myself pacing in the entryway of the medical clinic again. “Seriously, girl. You need to calm down. Sit down or go pace somewhere else. You’re making me dizzy,” Sage says from her seat. She has become more short-tempered since being marked and her wolf receding. I guess I would be irritable too. She’s also worried about Tobias, most likely. “Sorry. It’s just been a while, and the fight should be over by now,” I say with concern in my voice. “If anything was wrong, Lucas would have linked you, right?” Emmy asks. She appears calm in her seat, but I know her. I know when she is overthinking and worried. She has checked her phone at least twenty times. She says she’s looking at the time, but I know she’s checking to see if there is a message from Lucas. I’m not sure if she has feelings for Lucas. Emmy holds that kind of information close to her chest. I know she worries about him. “That’s true. Lucas or Darius would have linked me by now if something was wro
DAYA POV We raced to the border and sure enough, a group of eight wolves was waiting for us. I was met with two familiar faces. Mara. She is looking smug and portrays the illusion that she is in charge. And Leslie. Poor Leslie looked scared, and her face was covered in dirt, with two streaks down her cheeks from crying. They hadn’t dressed her. She stood naked- her body bruised and shaking. Mara held Leslie by the back of her head, and Leslie’s eyes were wincing from the pain of her hair being pulled from her scalp. “Shift back now!” Mara yells at us. We ignored her command and continued approaching. She unsheaths a silver blade. She presses the tip of the blade to Leslie’s throat and Leslie tries to hold back tears and tries to stay still. “I said, shift,” Mara repeats herself, putting more emphasis on her tone. We all shift back to our human forms and stand in front of her, and her goons. We all stand there naked, except for Sage, who is still in her black leggings and grey lo
