We continued to play the game until it got to where I had the chance to ask Duke again. I could feel Nate urging me on, and I made a mental note to give him a thank-you kiss for his support earlier.

"Who was the girl you spent this morning with?"

For a moment, no one spoke a word. After everyone had gotten their fair share of shock, they turned to look at Duke with the same curious eyes and slight anger I had back then. Duke, however, had a look of shock, and I felt the pit of my tummy crumble with hurt. Just looking at him stare blankly at me like I had caught him making out with his brother's mate really choked the life out of me. I had told myself that we had gotten too close for him to do any shitty thing to me, even though a few minutes ago, I overheard him on a call with probably the same girl. I guess I was just some foolish, naïve girl who needed someone to love her for the first time.
