Chapter 8

Scarlett slept very late last night and drank two cocktails. The hangover made her feel uncomfortable. Alexis happened to call her early in the morning, which was so noisy that she could not continue to sleep.

“What’s the matter again, famous celebrity Alexis?”

Scarlett was usually grumpy when she woke up but had been suppressing it for a long time at the Shaw Residence. Now that this side of her was unblocked, she was as restless as a ferocious beast that had just gotten out of its cage.

Honestly, Alexis should be glad that Scarlett was not in front of her.

“Did I wake you up?”

Scarlett rolled her eyes and got up from her bed while rubbing her temples. “Hurry up and talk.”

“... Your ex-husband is trending with his dream girl. Now, the whole internet is discussing if the two of you peacefully divorced because you’ve both cheated on each other.”

Scarlett was stunned for a while and sobered up a lot. “You also called him my ex-husband. In the future, it won’t be necessary for you to risk half of your petty life to tell me about Raymond.”

Alexis touched her neck on the other end of the phone. “I was wrong, Lettie. Go back to sleep, go back to sleep. I won’t disturb you anymore!”

Following that, she quickly hung up.

Scarlet threw her phone on the bed and buried her head back into her pillow.

Nonetheless, Alexis’ words kept lingering in her head. She could not go back to sleep anymore.

She was rather annoyed. “Hilla, boil some water for me.”

“Okay, Master.”

Scarlett entered her bathroom with slippers. The person in the mirror had messy hair, and her skin was not in good condition due to the handover. She disliked how she looked in the mirror.

‘It’s just a divorce. You don’t need to be like this, Scarlett.’

Half an hour later.

Scarlett looked at the gossip news on her phone. She would be lying to herself to say that she felt nothing, but she had expected this to happen. Now that she saw the news about Raymond and Julie, she only felt that it was somewhat laughable.

She quit Twitter. Since they had divorced, the midnight date between Raymond and Julie had nothing to do with her.

After having breakfast, Scarlett put on some makeup and changed into a blue dress. She drove her dusty Ferrari out of the garage and headed straight to Crain.

Scarlett had come here yesterday. She went up with Mark but came down with Alexis, hence the receptionist treated her with respect.

“Miss Reed, are you here to see Miss Carter?”

Scarlett smiled and responded, “Mm, is she here?”

“Miss Carter has just arrived. Let me get the elevator for you.”

Scarlett nodded. “Thanks.”

She could not help but twitch her mouth when she looked at the respectful receptionist in front of her and recalled the two receptionists from Tenton two days ago.

How bad must Raymond be treating her for his company’s receptionists to look down at her?

On second thought, Scarlett thought that she had stooped too low herself. She was well on her own, but she just had to kneel in front of Raymond and kiss his *ss. At last, she got nothing apart from a divorce license.

A “ding” was heard, and the elevator door opened.

Scarlett recollected her thoughts. She walked out of the elevator in silver high heels and walked straight to Alexis’ office.

Nicole was rather surprised to see her. “Miss Reed, why are you here?”

“I’m just here to take a look.”

She smiled and pointed at the unlocked door to Alexis’ office. “I can go in, right?”

“Yes, yes, yes, Lex is the only one inside. Since you’re here, advise her to keep a low profile. A lot of paparazzi have been watching her lately. I had to put in a lot of effort to cover up the incident last night.”

Scarlett nodded. “Thanks for the hard work, I’ll ask her to pay more attention.”

Nicole was one of the very few people who knew that Scarlett was one of the major shareholders of Crain, and she also knew Scarlett’s relationship with Alexis. Alexis was a heartless person and could only be managed by Scarlett and Justin. As her manager, Nicole was only here to help her clean up her mess.

Now that Scarlett was willing to manage Alexis, Nicole, who had been exhausted, felt alive again. “It’s within my duty. I shan’t hold you back anymore, Miss Reed.”

Scarlett pushed the door open and entered Alexis’ office. The famous celebrity who was bright and dazzling in the public was immersed in looking at something on her tablet. The expression on her face proved that she was worthy of her title as the best actress.

“What are you looking at?”

Scarlett sat next to her and tapped her crossed legs.

Alexis was looking at the scoop of Raymond and Julie. She did not expect Scarlett to come, but she was very excited. “I’m looking at the gossip of your ex-husband and her dream girl! Say, it’s quite touching.”

Scarlett cast a sidelong glance at her. “What did you say?”

Alexis felt a chill on her back. She immediately changed her expression to a righteous one. “I said that the cheating couple is really shameless. They got together right after he got divorced. Are they so afraid that other people don’t know that they’re each other’s true love?”

Scarlett poured a cup of tea for herself. “You’re even being spirited now?”

Alexis was truly afraid this time. “I was wrong, I was wrong! In order to make up for my mistake, I’ve asked someone to get me two tickets to Julie’s exhibition. When the day arrives, go with Mark and blind their filthy eyes! What’s so good about Raymond? He’s just a second-hand product that you don’t want anymore. Mark is much better than him.”

Scarlett raised her eyebrow. “Say these in front of Raymond if you can!”

Needless to say, Alexis did not have the guts to do that. “We’re decent people so it’ll look ugly to fall out with him in public. We should slap him in the face without making a move! Trust me, if you bring Mark there, I guarantee you that the public opinion will be on your side!”

“Come on! Don’t harm Mark anymore. Didn’t you see the recent comments from his fangirls!”

“You don’t understand. Mark is now changing to be the capable type. It wouldn’t be a pity to lose some fangirls.”

Scarlett almost believed her. “Tell me, what the hell are you up to again?”

“Cough, cough, cough… I heard that Julie invited Raymond as a special guest.”

Scarlet paused and turned to look at Alexis. “Are you taking me as a part of the fun to watch?”

Alexis blinked sheepishly and lifted her hand to place it on Scarlett’s shoulder. “You can’t say that, Lettie. Think about those grievances you suffered from the Shaw family for the past three years! At the end of the day, wasn’t it all because Raymond turned a blind eye to you? Julie has not only invited Raymond but also Jean and his younger sister. You have no idea what the people outside are saying about you! They say that you’ve been at the Shaw Residence for three years but aren’t as useful as an invitation from Julie.”

Alexis’ words reminded Scarlett of what happened two years ago. It was her 25th birthday, and Alexis had helped her throw a small birthday party. She initially planned to confess to Raymond and the others that she was quite wealthy but apart from Alexis and her other friends, nobody from the Shaw family showed up that night.

That was not the worst. The worst thing was Tiffany sent her a screenshot from a group that she had created. Tiffany asked those who received her invitation if they were going to her birthday party, and everyone answered “no”.

In the end, the screenshot was leaked, and everyone in the circle laughed at Scarlett for not measuring up to herself. They mocked her for holding a birthday party like others thinking that she had risen to a high status just because she got married into a wealthy family and was dressed nicely.

The past was painful. Scarlett relaxed her eyebrows and said, “It’s boring.”

Alexis clicked her tongue. “How is this boring? Tiffany is Mark’s fangirl. A while ago, Julie’s company contacted Mark’s manager as she wanted to collaborate with him for an exhibition. Since you couldn’t invite the Shaw family two years ago, they can’t beg for Mark two years later.”

“Mm—just the thought of it is exciting!”

Scarlett smiled faintly at Alexis. “Great, you even know how to scheme against me now.”

“I dare not, I dare not.”

After a moment of silence, Alexis could not hold back anymore and asked, “So are you going or not?”

Scarlett took a sip of her chrysanthemum tea. “I’m going. Why not?”

She wanted to see if Tiffany would die from anger knowing that she was with her idol.
