Reiner - Our Compromises

“Mr. Knight. You’re here so late. I didn’t think that there was anyone in the building anymore except for us guards,” a man voice said.

A guard came? Seriously?

I couldn’t quite hear Reiner’s reply, but I could hear the guard quite clearly because he was speaking in a loud booming voice.

“I came to check because I thought I heard the sound of someone…like a woman…crying or screaming?” the guard said although he sounded unsure.

Did he hear me just now? Was I that loud?

“No, I didn’t hear anything. I’m working here alone, and I haven’t seen anyone or heard anything,” Reiner replied smoothly.

“Is that so. Maybe it was just my imagination. I’ve already checked the other floors…I’ll keep checking just to be on the safe side. Thank you so much and sorry for disturbing your work,” the man said respectfully.

After a moment, the door closed and then the door that I was pressing my ear against suddenly opened. The sudden disappearance of the door made me lose my balance and the dizziness th
