Eluvene went to where Rhobart stood. “He tortured her in there too, but it is the only way out of here!”

“Please!” Ayla begged. She choked on a sob.

Kerra let out a sound of pain.

The twins looked at Ayla with sad eyes. The woman that used to laugh with them all the time was only a shadow of her former self. Ayla’s cheeks were hollow. She was so thin that she could barely walk. Her body had become a canvas for bruises, cuts, and scars. But it was her eyes that stood out—they looked haunted. They were the eyes of someone that suffered too much.

Godefray inhaled deeply. While he had not been physically tortured, the lack of food had taken its toll on his body. Emotion flashed into his green eyes. “Look at me, Ayla!” She did so. “You do not break! You do not yield! You do not show fear before your enemies!”

Ayla shook her head. Godefray was wrong; she was broken. She was utterly afraid of going inside the warehouse. “Please!”

“What if I put a sleep spell on you?” Milton offered.
