Hours later, when the lesson was over, Ayla was happy to have finished the pink satchel. Grandmother Anza inspected it for a while. “It’s not bad for your first project. You can start something new tomorrow.”

“May I go into the garden?” Ayla asked, and her grandmother nodded.

Ayla rose from her chair, walked out through the double crystal doors, and entered her garden. She was glad that she had her room on the ground floor, even if the rest of her family slept on the second floor.

She spent time in the garden until a servant came to take her to the dining hall. As she passed next to her desk, she smirked, grabbed her slingshot, and hid it in her dress’s pockets.

The white marble floor of the dining hall had been so well polished, Ayla could see her reflection in it. Chandeliers with magic crystals hung from the ceiling, the yellowish light illuminating the interior of the hall.

A large table was in the middle of the hall, and her family and the guests were already seated around it
