Chapter 30

It was so quiet after Matt’s announcement that Nick could hear a pin drop.

Look at them staring at me like I’m the elephant in the room.

“When you say he knows,” Jacobs began. “Knows what exactly?”

“All of us being here at the same time at an outsider’s request is not a coincidence,” Jesse said. “He knows . . . the big one. The one that ties us all together.”

“Yes,” Nick snarled. “The outsider knows!” He stared at them as he slowly started walking the balcony again. He knew he was hard to see in his black long sleeve dress shirt and black jeans. His boots clunked on the planks.

“Only half the story is in here,” Matt said as he held the red diary up. “Where’s the rest of it?”

“Danielle wrote the rest in a separate diary. That I happen to have,” Nick answered.

“Shit!” Jesse exclaimed. “And y’all said she wasn’t naïve.”

“Actually, we said she wasn’t stupid,” Bonnie corrected nervously.
