A few days had passed. So far, Lily has endured sleeping without Lucas beside her, partly because the man was so busy. He was either working in the study until two or three in the morning or sleeping in his office lounge. Lucas had explained to her and Aiden that he was chasing a deadline. It did not mean, however, that Lily was resting well. She had formed bags under her eyes, and she would not have had any rest last night if not for her decision to stay in Aiden's room. Whenever Lucas worked late at the office, Lily offered to remain with him for protection, but the man insisted it could be done once Gunner arrived. He said, "Aiden is more important. I am safe here in the office." It took longer for Gunner to relocate because the soldier visited his parents before flying to Rose Hills. Gunner understood his new assignment was meant for long term. After putting Aiden to sleep, Lily went to the villa's security room. Lucas had set up five computer screens, two LED screens, a
Lucas grabbed her arm and tried to guide her out the door, but Lily swung her elbow, forcing the man to let go. "Lily, please," Lucas said. His jaws were clenched, and brows were meeting. "I don't want you to see -" "It's too late!" Lily yelled. Her body trembled, thinking back to what she had seen. "What happened?" Lily asked. She gritted her teeth, and her hands balled into fists. Lily felt her eyes had turned into a waterfall that it just would not stop flowing! She asked, "Who did that to you, Lucas? Who?" Lucas immediately tried to wipe the uncontrollable tears that soaked her face. He said, "Lily, stop -" "No! How do you expect me to turn a blind eye to what I have seen? Lucas! Tell me who did that to you, and I will hunt them down!" Lily declared. "Ahh!" Lucas grunted. He ran his finger through his hair as he took a full turn. "I did not want you to see this early on -" "Well, what did you expect, Lucas? With us living together, it was bound to happen!" Lily pointed
'Does it mean we can do it?' The question took Lily aback. She gulped and turned to Lucas, wide-eyed. She answered, "Um." There was an awkward silence before she replied, "I don't know. I'm not ready." Lucas hugged her tighter from behind. He said, "I'm sorry. Of course. It's been a while. I should give you time." He breathed into the back of her neck, making Lily feel goosebumps, especially since she knew he was shirtless beneath the blanket. Lucas softly added, "I will wait." "Thank you," Lily responded. She focused her gaze on the other side of the room, thinking. Then, Lily explained her primary concern. She expressed, "Then, you know, we are in a serious situation, and the last thing I need is for me to get pregnant. If I am, I can't run after you or fight your enemies." "Right," Lucas softly answered. "I'll get on contraceptives first," she concluded. "Oh, okay," Lucas acknowledged. There was a hint of happiness in Lucas' tone that she could not ignore. He pulled her t
The Thompson Group of Companies conference room. "Director Webber, how is everything at Koplin?" Lucas looked at the report given to him and said, "How far is the construction progress going on there for us to spend fifty million dollars in less than a month?" Lucas saw how the director in charge paled at his words. Still, before the older man could speak, the current Vice President of Thompson Group of Companies, Walton Reed, remarked, "That's understandable, Lucas." "I don't expect you to fully comprehend since you did not work in the company, years before you became the CEO." While Walton's tone of voice appeared friendly, his words had a deeper meaning. It was clear to Lucas that the Vice President was questioning his ability. Lucas had always suspected that Walton was not pleased with his appointment as the CEO. After all, Walton was the best candidate to take the CEO job before Lucas' return. Unfortunately for Walton, his father, and Evan's best friends were the company's m
"Are we going to be a problem, Shauna?" Lily asked while guiding Shauna to the lobby. Lily noticed how Shauna tensed. She faintly smiled and answered, "No, we will not be a problem, but I admit I was shocked." As they left the elevator, Shauna looked past the reception and glass windows. She appeared in a daze as she gulped. She inquired, " When exactly did you get married? How? Didn't Lucas just return?" "Just a little over two weeks," Lily responded. "We got married in secret." Shauna fell silent. Then she said, "I will be frank and say I had returned hoping to reconnect with Lucas. I have always liked him, but I never expected that he still had you in his heart after all this time." Well, if there was one thing that Lily appreciated about Shauna, it was the fact that she wasn't a fake. Lily held Shauna's arm and asked again, "So, are we going to be a problem? Because it was my decision to hire you. Lucas needs help with the company's book of accounts, and I knew we could trust
"Shauna! Where are you?" Lily kicked the door to a private room and startled the guests inside. "Miss, please. You are disturbing our guests," an employee of the Club Lux said. "Sandy, blonde hair girl with a cute face! Ring a bell yet? Until you tell me where she is, I won't stop kicking doors open!" Lily angrily declared. This was the third private room she had broken into, but there were no signs of Shauna. Of course, upon her entry, bouncers tried to stop Lily, but she flashed her military ID and handgun. She declared that she was there to save her friend in trouble. The male receptionist tried to help find Shauna, but the club was dark, and they had too many clients that night, so he could not distinguish Shauna. "Sir, maybe the VIP room?" One bouncer suggested. "Mister Jace Hernandez is celebrating his birthday with a few guests. I'm pretty sure his friends brought women." The male receptionist instantly frowned. He stuttered, "No. No." He looked at Lily and said, "Whoev
The day before, Shauna left the Thompson Group of Companies desolated. She blamed herself for bringing up the old days when she and Lucas were kids. In the end, Lucas slapped her with the truth, and his words continued to cut like a knife. Why did she even fall for Lucas? If only she had fallen in love with someone else, life would not have been so hard for her. Shauna had been driving around the city for half an hour. She did not want to go home. Just then, a text came in. She read it after parking on the side of the road. Blake: [Hey, Shauna. How are you doing? Please give me a chance to take you out.] Blake Wilson was Shauna's old high school classmate. They met again through a common friend when she returned to Rose Hills. Since then, he has been asking her out. The guy was above average. His family owned three grocery stores in the city. He was handsome enough. He had very light brown hair and green eyes. What Shauna disliked about him was the fact that Blake lived a ca
Lucas was speaking to his Uncle Sean and Aunt Reese outside Shauna's room. Reese was Shauna's mother. "They are still talking inside," Lucas said while peeking through the door. "But Lily has texted me the names responsible. Looks like Shauna opened up to her about it." Reese wept in Sean's chest. She wondered, "Why couldn't Shauna tell us?" "Aunt, I think it's normal for her to open up to Lily. She saved Shauna. Moreover, Shauna is probably ashamed to tell you for now. Give her time," Lucas suggested. "There you are," a familiar voice called. "I came to get some case study files, and then I learned from one of the doctors that you are all here. So I came looking for you!" The person who arrived was Lucas' mother, Doctor Shantelle. She was smiling, but when she saw their panicked expression, she asked, "What's going on?" Lucas was usually composed, but he suddenly felt uneasy. This was not part of his plan. He meant to visit his mother later in the day, but instead, she was the
