"My bad" Arman shrugged, taking his eyes away, "oh we got another addition, Percy my friend." He gestured to the last car as a young man, slightly older than them, stepped out of his car, followed by... Luna?Luna too expressed shock on seeing him. He composed his features, drawing a blank stare. She had not replied to his text."So happy new month, guys! This is how we're gonna do this." Arman, the ringleader announced, "There are five guys and four beautiful girls here so one gentleman will have to go without a girl... Okay, we'll do it this way."*"Rosetta is with Nico, Stella with Giovanni and Luna with Percy, all of you three will have to let go of your girlfriends for now. Oh, fiancee for Percy." Domenico's brows went up. So this was Luna's famous fiancee. "We'll have five rounds... Girls, you do know how to drive real good?" Rosetta snarled, "Are you being sexist here, Arman?" "Sorry, sorry" He raised his hands in surrender, "we'll have five rounds, girls and guys separate.
"Be careful out on the tracks." He hurriedly told her before going off while she joined the rest. "In three, two, one..." The whistle sounded. The Ferrari kicked off first and soon, both cars disappeared. "Go, Nico!" Rosetta hailed, whooping. So he let her call him Nico? Just nice. "Hi, I'm Stella." the last girl smiled at her, her hand outstretched. She returned the smile, "I'm Luna." and she made to take the offered hand when somebody else took hers. "I'm Bernard. Nice to meet you." Domenico friend's face came into view.*She froze for a second before wrenching her hand away. "That's rude!" She exclaimed with a frown. Marino rolled his eyes then fixed them back on her, "I just couldn't resist the petite hand when it was offered" a smug look appeared on his face, "and you're quite an angelic beauty, by the way." Her frown receded, replaced with a chuckle. "I'm sorry" she said to him, "but I will advise you to take your sweet words to some other waiting damsel. This one's
She sniffed away her tears, looking up just in time to see Rosetta, out of her car, looking in her direction. She blinked. Rosetta got back into her car and drove off. Was she gloating? She started her engine, manoeuvering with only her right hand and only when her car parked in the familiar clearing did she relax completely. "Hahaha!" Arman laughed loudly, "we have our girl winner!" Rosetta.*She looked away. What mattered was that God saved her life. "I had the guys get in their cars blindfolded so they won't know who the winning girl is. You can take your blindfolds off now." Arman announced, "and in three, two, one..." the whistle followed. She watched the cars disappear into the distance. She didn't care any longer, she just wanted to go home. A knock on her car door had her looking to see who it was. Rosetta. "Hi." Rosetta greeted plainly. She rolled her eyes and looked away. She had the perfect idea what she was here for. "Look, I'm not here to gloat as you think thoug
"If Rosetta hadn't noticed, you would have beared this pain for how long, huh?" So it was Rosetta who had told him. She shut her eyes, leaning into him, letting the dizziness take over. "You shouldn't race ever again. What if you had died?" He kept admonishing, "those tracks were really cunny." She smiled, feeling warm at his concern. "Luna..." She heard him call but he sounded very far. She slipped into the darkness.*Rosetta was furious. After all her rant and effort to win just so she could go on the dates with Domenico, he ended up losing. How much of a ... Urrrgh! "Can't you drive faster!?" For the fact that he was Luna's fiancee made her detest him. Birds of a feather flock together, talk more of getting married. Percy was fed up. He understood she was annoyed at not getting her man but it wasn't his fault he was far better than the man she clamoured for. After all, he also didn't want to come with her; he'd rather play chess with his fiancee. "You have to calm down."
The delicious aroma wafted into her nostrils, making her salivate. "Did you cook?" She queried instantly. He shrugged. Her mouth fell open, "You cooked!" He chuckled. "Why are you making such a fuss about it? When I brought you in and the doctor explained your condition to me, he also told me that it'll take a couple of hours before you'd wake so I decided to cook. It just came to me since we were both hungry and the doctor said you'd need food after you wake. Its nothing, really. I rarely cook doesn't mean I don't cook and I just decided to put my good skills to use. What's wrong with that?"*Domenico was nervous! The thought made her laugh out. The tables had finally turned. He was the one who always made people nervous and unsure of themselves. Now he was the one blabbering nonsense in her presence. "What's funny?" Her laughter increased at his frown. "You... You're nervous!" She forced out between laughs. His frown deepened. "Keep laughing and I'll take back my food." He
"Nothing much. Just make this last few minutes bearable for me." She nodded, forcing herself to keep mute. Percy used the opportunity to look her over, he couldn't deny the faint stirrings of familiarity that had been gnawing at him since he first saw her but he couldn't quite figure out where he had met her before. "Do you have a sister?" He suddenly blurted. She looked at him, a brow raised. "Yes. Why?" "Do you dislike her?" He asked again. He was suddenly restless. "Very much. Again, why are you asking?" Percy stared at her some more before realization dawned on him. His eyes popped out. "Rosetta."*Rosetta watched his reaction amusedly, "Is my name that enticing?" He quickly shook his head, composing himself. How could he not have remembered her? "You're acting strange." She commented, picking up her wine glass. "Tell me" He began, curious and intrigued by this sharp mouthed, beautiful, classy woman. She had really grown. "Tell you what?" Rosetta thought Percy's looks
"The car is too quiet" Percy finally broke the heavy long silence, "What's up?" She shrugged. He was the one driving though she had offered to take him home, it was easier than him giving her directions. "You are not the only one that feels strange. We spent over three hours talking, I guess we have a connection after all." She glanced at him and an idea suddenly popped into her head. "I want revenge." "Revenge?" "On Domenico. Spend the rest of the night with me."*Percy was stunned. "There are a few bars open and parties going on. We could pop in one. Don't worry, I'll explain to Luna if she misunderstands." His first instinct was to object but Rosetta wasn't ready to back down. "Please." He hesitated. What could possibly go wrong? " Fine" He sighed, "Where?" Rosetta beamed. "Reverse. I have the perfect spot." ° Early Sunday morning, Luna was the first to wake. She appeared puzzled at first. What she was lying on didn't feel like her bed neither did the air smell like h
"I had good company." There was a slight smirk on Marino's face. Domenico shook his head. When would his friend ever change? He remembered his earlier promise and made a phone call to Rosetta. It rang and rang but no one picked. Percy took Luna home afterwards to wash up and then they headed to church, nothing seemingly wrong with them. But even though they had each other, both of them still found their minds drifting back to the events of the previous night. It was just one car racing, one evening of fun but it changed everything. Nothing was ever going to remain the same.*Percy wasn't one to dabber in uncertainty. He didn't like feeling unsure about anything especially not about the relationship he cherished so much. He wanted to marry her, he loved her, his Luna; but now, after the previous evening, he found himself second guessing. Not second guessing neither was he unsure. It was nice that things had happened this way. He himself had known that he would have to eventually clear
