Nate was worrying me. He was a distant zombie all day. When I’d asked him about it, he told me he’d had some bad news. Considering how well he handles my shit, I knew it had to be really bad for him to zone out. “Would you like to run with me after school?” I asked him.

“Not a bad idea, Kimi-cup,” he agreed. We’d met at our usual shifting spot when school let out, and ditched our stuff with Kam and Rose. She grumbled the entire time we shifted. Mal being able to shift was a harsh blow to her. I flashed a smile at Nate, then rolled my eyes at Rose’s complaints.

We raced to the cover of the woods, then played a bit to let off some steam. As a species, we tend to better handle stress in our wolf forms. Simpler life, exertion of energy, stuff like that. Nate was calme
