ESMERAY

My heart sank as soon as I saw Leon. He was the only one who caught me sneaking out last night to meet Caesar.

"I heard a scream. Did someone die?" Leon interrupted, barging in. Then his eyes went straight to me, where I stood frozen, and his eyebrows rose.

"Oh, Leon, my son, come here," Mother uttered in a charming voice, stretching forth a hand as Leon approached her and kissed the back of it as a greeting. I remained in my spot, unable to move, but my eyes followed Leon all around the room.

"Good morning, Aunt. What happened? I heard children screaming," my mother chuckled at his words.

"No, silly. That was just Esmeray screaming while the royal healers healed her broken leg," Mother said, her gaze shifting between me and Leon, who was now standing next to me while Mom sat.

"What?!" He snapped, and I tried to signal him with my eyebrows not to tell my mother anything about last night.

His gaze immediately left my mother and turned to me, gradually becoming sharper and sharpe
