Chapter 3

“Are you daydreaming about your hot boss?”

“I am not dreaming about my boss May”

I said rolling my eyes at her as she burst out laughing from the other end of the FaceTime call.

“Okay, My bad, you were just thinking of her fingers all up in you. Yeah?”

I felt my body heat up, if I could visible blush, I promise I would have.

She started laughing again and this time I joined in. I was in bed under the covers, where I had been basically the whole day, my first week at work had been very stressful, and I’m so glad for the weekend to finally be here.

I held my phone and watch as May continue to giggle.

“Well, are you finally done yet?”

Okay, that was a bad idea, because she just got triggered and the laugh just started all over again, and all I could do is just watch her and giggle.

My phone pinged and a notification bubble appeared in front of my screen.

Miss Diaz:

There’s been an emergency meeting we have to attend. It’s a dinner, dress pretty, I will be there in a bit.

My mind went totally blank as I continued to stare at the text.

“You okay?” May asked, at this point she has stooped laughing and was now squinting into the camera to get a better view of my face.

“She’s coming” I said yanking the bed cover across the room and vigorously running my hands all over my messy hair. I immediately ran into the bathroom and began splashing water over my face. This is not real, is it?

“Who is? The invincible Man ?”

From her chuckle afterwards I could tell that may found her joke funny.

I splashed more cold water on my face as I walked back to my room. “no my CEO, there’s some sort of impromptu dinner we’ve got to go”

“Yikes! Work on Saturday” May said as her face crinkled in disgust.

Well, she’s a busy woman” I replied while ransacking my wardrobe for a suitable dress. “May, she specifically asked me to look pretty” I said pouting to my friend.

“Yeah sure…”.

May ended up picking up a dress for me, which I didn’t question for a bit, I did my makeup in a manner that I hope is suitable for a business dinner, and styled my curly hair lazily just back wards and held it with a hairpin making some strands to fall over my shoulder.

I got another notification from Miss Diaz indicating that she’s waiting downstairs. I took one last look at my self in the mirror before grabbing my purse and walking out of my apartment making sure my heels are well done, hopefully I don’t trip like in the movies.

“There you’re”. Miss Diaz said with a hint of her Italian accent once she noticed me, she was leaning on her black expensive Mercedes car.

I quickly took her in, she was dressed in a satin wine suit, with a V curved neck leading down to her chest and a beautiful scarf made of the same satin was wrapped around her neck, allowing some cleavages to show, her hair was beautiful swept to the side of her face.

I was so caught up in checking out Miss Diaz that I didn’t notice she was checking me out too. We finally locked eyes, her deep black eyes with my brown ones.

“You look gorgeous.”

Those three words sent my heart racing and my mind spiraling.

I managed to mumble a quick “thank you “. My clumsiness was at its perk, topping with how shy I felt under her burning gaze.

We got into the car and I tried to compose myself while miss Diaz gave me a run down on the dinner meeting we’re about to attend, the purpose of the meeting, the type of people that are gonna e in attendant, who I should talk to, who I could talk to, who I shouldn’t bother talking too. I nodded my head in response as I tried to take in all she just said.

The restaurant was huge, and as we approached, I could hear soft piano music already playing. We parked at the parking lots, filled with different cars, Miss Diaz climbed down from the car, I tried opening the door to my side but I couldn’t. Miss Diaz walked over to my side of the car and pressed a button allowing her to open the door, “it was locked from inside”. She said stretching out her hand for me to take.

My head was spinning, and my heart pacing heavily as I covered her hands with mine, she held it gently and firmly as I stepped out of the car like a princess, like some sort of Cinderella with her prince Charming.

There were few passers by that stare, and some walked passed us uninterested.

The interior was filled with various soft light and the quiet sound of people filled my ears. There were various important looking people spread out in the room, and there were small circles every here and there around the tables, smiling, eating, drinking, and chatting.

“I want you to stay close” Miss Diaz whispered in my ears as we were guided towards our table. I ignored the goosebumps forming down my neck and concentrated on passing through this sea of humans to finally get to our table.

There were people already seated and Miss Diaz shook hands with most of them, switching from her Italian language to English. I followed behind and did likewise before we took our seats at the table.

The waiters began serving the food, and I felt my stomach rumbling at the sight of the plate before me. As I dug in, Miss Diaz and the others broke in into business discussion, I kept attentive to what is being discussed as I needed to make notes, but most times they seemed to be a sudden change as they switch into Italian, some of them spoke Spanish, and at this point, I was finally lost. I looked at Miss Diaz with lost and confusion clearly visible on my face, and in return she smiled at me, her eyes were soft and calming.

Occasionally Miss Diaz would turn and whisper something about each person to me, and this time she whispered into my ears with her hands rested on my thighs, asking me not to bother taking much note, as they kept switching their languages. She seemed more relaxed here and it was exciting watching her.

By the time dinner was over. I was stuffed. Everyone began to shake hands and say their goodbyes .

“Will you love to go on a quick work?”Miss Diaz voice came as a whisper With a twinkle in her eyes.

I nodded my head in agreement and immediately got up from my seat and followed her outside. It was late and the sky was dark, i clutched my bare shoulders as the wind blew past. Without so much of a word Miss Diaz took off her blazers and placed it over my shoulder, and now being left with the scarf which lay sagely on her neck, giving view of some shades of tattoos. I wonder if her whole body is filled with different inks of tattoos.

We began walking again.we were walking side by side at a steady pace. The night was so still and silent, and the only sound that could be heard is that of our heels against the gravel.

“So, how are you finding it here?” Miss Diaz asked, her voice infiltrating my thoughts.

“Oh, Uhm actually the food was very nice and…”

“Not the restaurant dumbo. I mean how are you coping with being here, you know away from your family and friends and living here, In California”. She looked at me with amusement in her eyes and I couldn’t help but smile shyly which seemed to make her smile wider, I felt warm inside, her smile was beautiful, she was an epitome of beauty and perfection.

“Well, beside from work, i don’t know anyone here honestly” I

Mumbled, being void of what else to say.

“Are the working hours too much for you?”

“No, not that, I’m just not good at meeting people and that’s all” i responded instantly.

“You were fine meeting me”

Was I ? Hell no, you can asked the devil on my shoulder

We were silent for some time, we walked in front of a garden with beautiful flowers surrounding it, and at the center of it was a water fountain, which water was gushing out from a heart shaped rock. Miss Diaz stopped in front of it.

“This place is believed to be called a love garden, while some call it a fate garden.

It is beloved to be magical and when visited with someone you love, creates an unbreakable tie between you both, or either changes your fate.

“Do you believe that?” I asked.

“I hope so, that means we get to be together”. With that my mouth instantly went dry. Together? “I’m tired of having my PA’s run off after working for few days, and it’s really exhausting always having to look for one and frequently seeing different faces. She said with her face void of any emotions and her voice was stern.

My heart fell. The bond she was thinking Of was clearly on professional ground. But what was I expecting, I should really stop thinking that something more would come out of our “relationship” she was my boss, and nothing more.

“It’s getting late” Miss Diaz said suddenly glancing down at her watch.

Is she bipolar?

She began walking back to her car and I followed silently behind her as I tried to swallow down the lump that formed in my throat.
