CHAPTER 39: Late Night Call

“Did you have fun tonight?” Charles asked me when we got back to our neighborhood. I stayed quiet the whole ride because I couldn't get the picture of Rue with someone else in the restaurant out of my head.

It made me lose all the happy and proud feelings I had about myself. Bitterness filled me up completely.

Trying not to seem unkind, I managed to force a smile on Charles.

"Yeah. Thank you so much, Charles," I uttered using my quiet voice.

"If that’s the case, why don’t we schedule our next date?" he teasingly suggested. Unfortunately, I was too preoccupied to decide on that.

"I’ll let you know if I’m free again," I just said.

"Alright."

Thankfully, as soon as I entered our house, my mother and father were already asleep. I wouldn’t have to explain to them about the bouquet that I got from Charles. The quietness of the house gave me a moment to let out a deep sigh, feeling a mix of emotions swirling within me.
