Chapter 40 Jake POV

As the cab driver was driving away, memories of how her old caretaker had abused her came flooding through her head. She used to wake Anastasia up as early as 3am to cook, to wash and to scrub the bathhouse and halls of the orphanage. She hardly made her bath, she hardly fed her.

Not that the other kids didn't work, but they did minor chores while Anastasia did the heavy ones. She sometimes take our their chores and give to Anastasia .

Leaving the orphanage triggered all these bad memories. "I would love to continue to be abused than be asked to leave the orphanage though." Anastasia thought to herself as she wiped a lone tear.

The children used to put things in her way and she would always trip because she couldn't see. Nobody wanted to be friends with a blind girl.

They laughed at her, pushed her around, hit her, but her old caretaker never said anything, even if she saw them bullying Anastasia , she rather encourages them.
