Chapter 21: Alex Makes a Move

Alex came home from work with a problem and a solution.

He found Amelia in her office, running her hands through her hair. He leaned on the door frame and watched her while she muttered and shook her head.

"I shouldn't have trusted her. This is insane."

"What's wrong?" Alex asked.

Amelia jumped and turned to him. "Bad lead from someone."

"Oh?"

She rose and paced the room for a moment as if she was choosing her words carefully. "I'm just a little frustrated. It's nothing I can handle."

He crossed his arms, amused by her in this state. She was angry and trying not to be. It was as if every one of her nerve endings was on fire and she had to pretend they weren't. "Tell me about it."
