Side Effects.

Leila's POV.

I woke up with a yelp of pain, and my head immediately swam in a fog so thick that I could barely see anything through it.

My heart was pounding in my chest so hard that I thought it might burst right out of me.

For a moment, everything seemed to be blurry around the edges. I couldn’t make sense of things at all – my own breathing didn’t seem to help. I wasn’t sure whether I was screaming or not. My ears were ringing too loudly to tell.

Then, just as abruptly as the pain had started, it disappeared.

There was still an odd feeling buzzing in the air like static electricity, but nothing quite so intense. It almost felt as if I should be able to touch it. But I didn’t want to try.

The idea sent an uncomfortable shiver down my spine.

I lay there on the bed for a while, panting like a dog as I tried to get myself under control again.

I finally managed after about five minutes. And when I did, I opened my eyes.
