After Carmen and Ethan had gotten into her car, she drove out of the yard and onto the road.
Ten minutes into the drive, she stared into the V-mirror and saw Ethan tightly holding his stomach.
“What's wrong, honey?” Carmen asked, looking back for a second before focusing on the road.
“Nothing, mommy,” Ethan mumbled as he quickly let go of his stomach.
But at that moment, his stomach grumbled, and Carmen couldn't help but giggle.
Then she smiled and asked, “Do you want us to stop at a restaurant and grab something to eat.”
“Ummm…” Ethan mumbled, staring down at his shoe.
“Are you okay?”
“Are you?”
“What?”
After a brief moment of hesitation, Ethan looked into the mirror and mumbled, “Why were you crying, mommy?”
“I was just sad. But I'm fine now.” Carmen said, feeling a sense of guilt consuming her.
“Why were you sad?”
“It's because…”
For a split second, Carmen wanted to tel
The living room grew silent as Carmen stared at Ethan. Then she lifted her head and saw Liam standing at the doorway.Seeing the fear in his mother's eyes, Ethan turned his head and mumbled, “Oh, it's the grey eye guy.”“Honey, go upstairs,” Carmen said without taking her focus off Liam.“Momm…”“Go upstairs,”With a hint of hesitation on his face, Ethan turned around and walked away. Then he stopped when he reached Liam.Afterward, he stared at Liam for a brief while and he faintly smiled at him before Ethan ran out of the living room. The moment his footsteps faded upstairs, Liam stared back at Carmen and walked further into the living room with anger burning in his eyes.“He looks nothing like Dax.” Liam coldly said, taking another step closer to her. Then he glanced at Dax before focusing back on Carmen and firmly uttered, “You said that the pre
When Carmen arrived at the Blue lake hotel, she brought her car to a stop, got down, and headed inside. After she arrived in the lobby, she gazed at the lady behind the desk and asked, “Is Mr. Davis here?”“Yes,” The lady said with a friendly smile.“Can you call him and tell him that I'm here."“Sure, name?”“Carmen Smith,”Smiling faintly, the lady picked up the phone. But at that moment, Carmen turned around and saw Liam walking into the lobby with Lorna. At that moment, Carmen locked eyes with him, and she froze.“Isn't that your ex-wife?” Lorna asked when she noticed Carmen.“Yes,” Liam mumbled.“Ok-ay, I'm gonna leave now.”“Mmm.”
When Carmen got home, she walked into the living room and saw Dax sitting on the couch."You are back," Dax mumbled when he lifted his head and their eyes met."Yeah," Carmen muttered with her gaze fixed on his. Then she turned to leave, but she stopped and turned back and focused back on him."I went to see Liam," Carmen said, holding in her breath."That's fine," Dax mumbled with a trace of hurt in his eyes."No, it's not because I told him that I love him and I meant it. Five years, five freaking years and he still has my heart!""Carm,""It's not fair to you!"With tears trailing down her face, Catherine sniffed and said, "It's not fair to Ethan or Liam! And it's sure isn't fair to me!"Staring into her watery eyes, Dax ignored the tightness in his chest and asked, "What are you trying to say?""I can't keep doing this. I have tried to please everyone else, but I have forgotten about myself! I don't kno
When the sunlight shone on her, Carmen raised her arm before her face, rolled to her side, and raised her eyelids. Then she blankly stared at the spare pillow, sighed, and mumbled, "There's no way of escaping you, is there?" After taking a moment to fully awake, she sat up, and at that moment, her door opened, and Ethan hurried into the room. Then he jumped on the bed, rushed into her arm, and mumbled, "Morning, Mommy." Smiling softly, she ran her fingers through his hair and gently asked, "You are not mad at mommy anymore?" With a smile on his face, Ethan slightly shook his head and mumbled, "I'm not angry at, mommy, but I am mad at the grey eyes guy." "Ethan," "Grandmother said I should call you for breakfast." Staring at her son, the sound of her ringtone suddenly drew Carmen's attention away from him and toward her phone. Then she picked it up, answered the call, and asked, "Who's this?" With h
The atmosphere in the living room became tense the next morning when Carmen walked in and locked eyes with her mother. From the way Mrs. Smith looked at her she knew something was wrong, so she drew a deep breath and asked, "What's going on?"Scowling at her daughter, Mrs. Smith narrowed her eyes. Then she looked at her husband and said, "Give her the paper,"A heavy sigh escaped his lips as Mr. Smith picked up his newspaper from the couch and handed it to Carmen. With a look of hesitation in her eyes, she took the newspaper from her father's hand and opened it."Is the first grandson of the Smith family an Ash or a Davis?" Carmen read out loud the newspaper heading with a hint of fear in her eyes. Then she continued, "The first grandson of the Smith and Ash family looks more like a Davis, then Ash and his eyes look like that of Liam Davis then Dax Ash.""See what I've been warning you about!" Mrs. Smith lashed out.
"Excuse me," Carmen said before walking away from everyone. With Liam's eyes focused solely on Carmen, he watched her for a moment. Then he brushed his palm against Ethan's hair and mumbled, "I will be back, bud."After Liam got a soft smile from Ethan, he walked out of the mansion, stopped on the balcony, and answered the call."Hey, Dax," Carmen mumbled, staring at the living room entrance for a moment."There is a swamp of reporters outside of my house. I believe they think that we are still living together, and are here to ask some questions." Dax said as he stared down from his bedroom window at the crowd outside."Can you get security to remove them?""Well, I could, but I don't want to."For a moment, Carmen kept silent. Then she let out a soft breath and asked, "Why?""I saw the news, Carm. They are going to put this on you and speculate the worst scenario possible, especially since they don't know the
As a writer, I don't write for myself, but you readers, and I realized that after ending the novel, you guys don't like the way I ended it. So I spoke with my editor, and I decided to go back to my notebook and write a bit longer and a better ending. To be honest, I didn't think that many people were interested in this novel since the reviews are not that many and encouraging to me as a writer, and I don't know how my readers feel about the storyline. As I said, I write for my readers, and if you guys don't leave a review, I don't know what you want or if you guys are actually interested in the novel. That's why I ended it so quickly. But because of you, "Jane." I am willing to go back to my notebook and brainstorm on a few more chapters that will fall in line with the story plot and give it a better ending. But It might take a bit of time though.
Walking into the airport lobby with Ethan in his arm and Carmen by his side, Liam stroked his son's hair as Ethan adjusted his head on his shoulder."He's sound asleep," Carmen whispered, smiling as she gazed at her son."I have already made arrangements for my place. Do you want us to stop there, so he can rest?" Liam said as he looked at her.Knowing that she hadn't settled on a house yet, Carmen slightly nodded and calmly uttered, "Sure."As they approached the door, Ethan suddenly wrapped his hand a bit tighter around Liam's neck, hugging onto him.A feeling of pure love coursed through Liam, and he paused as he reached for the door handle, striving to hold onto that feeling. At last, Carmen was the one who opened the door, and they headed outside.A while after leaving the airport in a black limousine, the driver brought the vehicle to a stop in a fancy yard, and Carmen felt speechless as she stared at the mansion before he
