CHAPTER 28: THE CHOICE

"Ms. Allen!" Maddie's eyes went wide when she saw me in the lobby. "What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be here."

Holding out my resignation paper, I gestured my whole self before her eyes.

I'm not properly attired for work. A simple black bodycon dress that hugs my curve. The typical look that rich people would raise an eyebrow about.

"You're leaving us?"

Maddie's acting as if I'm her favorite employee. There's confusion on her face and something that's mixed with pity that I don't need.

"But why?"

"Because I'm dying, Maddie."

There's nothing wrong with being real once in a lifetime. It's not that wrong to be literal at times, especially for me, who had long been living an artificial rotten life.

With a constipated smile, I offered her, I watched how she paused while staring at me in worry.

"Ms. Allen..."

"Kidding, Maddie. I'm just looking for a new environment." Excusing myself after making an excuse, I headed to the lift and hit his floor number.
