EIGHTY-THREE

“You don’t look good,” were the first words Cahir said when I stepped out of the high priestess’ chambers.

He’d popped open the first button of his shirt, his hair showed signs of being tugged at a little too much and the rug beneath his feet had footprints that showed he’d been pacing.

“I’m fine.” I hoped he didn’t notice my shaky smile. His eyes dropped from my face to my stomach and my heart lurched.

“What is it? Does your stomach hurt?” He stepped closer to me and I fought to maintain my stance despite wanting to be far, far away from him at that moment. “Why are you holding your stomach?”

I looked down and confirmed I was indeed clutching at my stomach. I snatched my hand away before he got suspicious.

‘Are we going to tell him or not?’ Asena asked in a quiet voice, my nervousness leaking into her.

‘It’s not something we can hide,’ I replied.
