Chapter Sixty-nine

[Third person's point of view]

"What's wrong? Are you upset? Did I do something wrong to make you mad, wife?" Eugene asked his wife as soon as he sat down.

Laura had to suppress her anger right away so her husband could not see it.

"Nothing," she replied simply, thinking carefully about what she would say first because it might initiate a fight between them if she talked recklessly.

"What makes you frown like that? Did something happen here when I wasn't there? Did someone upset you? Wife, tell me, what's wrong, hm?" His voice was soft, concerned about Laura's expression.

Instead of responding, Laura bowed quietly, fighting her jealousy and annoyance because she didn't want to show Eugene the ugly side of her personality. She doesn't want him to think she gets jealous easily and she doesn't want him to feel bad and think she's doubting him. Many thoughts were racing through her mind, but she couldn't say a single one.
