Chapter 32

Maya’s POV

“By the way, Ron, do you know a male called Jon—” I stopped short as I rounded the corner and caught sight of Ron standing in front of the mirror with a vibrant pink beret sitting atop his head.

“What are you doing?” I snorted then cracked up when he ripped it off and threw it back on the shelf, the tip of his ears now tinged to match the hue of the woollen cap.

He cleared his throat. “Faith made me promise to buy her something so I thought...” He trailed off, pointing in the direction of the beret.

I picked it up and added it to the growing pile of clothes on my arm.

“She’ll love it.” I smiled.

I was glad that Ron had insisted on this shopping trip.

It was a much-needed change of scenery and a welcomed distraction. I tried to focus on the clothes in front of me, obsessing over colours, textiles and styles rather than letting my mind stray to Chase and why he had not returned yet.
