Turns out the definition of swimming for the Walker family was to lounge around the beach, taking cute pictures and splashing at the shallow end of the water.

“I still can’t believe there are people in California who can’t swim.” I tell Vaughn as we walk along the beach, my hand sitting comfortably in his. Electric jolts crawl up our joined hands and I have to stop myself from thinking about it.

“We are exceptions then. We like to tell ourselves it's because we aren’t from here.”

I chuckle, Sandy had said that same thing over and over, her sisters agreeing with her.

“This is nice.” I found myself saying as the cool breeze went through my hair.

I feel Vaughn's eyes on me, my own eyes wandered everywhere but his face, I couldn't meet his eyes.

“You showed me your cool place back in Maine, why don’t I show you mine?”

My head jerks up, excitement already brewing in my guts as he hurried me along, obviously impatient to get us there.
