Chapter 89

As we got closer to the field where the pack had gathered, I began to hear the murmur of the press, and the anxiety came back again, like a rushing wind. Not because I couldn't talk to them or anything of the sort. But because I had failed them, they would look at me and see that their leader was a failure.

Lucas must have noticed how I was feeling because he squeezed my hands tight, as if to say it wasn't your fault. And I looked up with starry eyes, grateful for his presence. I may not say it out loud, but I was happy that he decided not to go but to be stubborn and stay with me.

"It will be alright." He whispered to me, his eyes full of assurance. His strong belief quelled all my doubt, and I felt a surge of boldness fill me.

"Thank you." I whispered back, and we fell into silence. I could already see the people gathering at the field, and a makeshift stage had been made in front.
