After Christabel left her mother view she went straight to Sarah's room."Sarah wake up," She said and tapped Sarah but Sarah only yawned and changed her sleeping position. "Sarah!" Christabel called, again, Sarah didn't answer not until Christabel splashed water on her face did she managed to voice 'hmmm' "Abeg stand up!" Christabel yelled. "Why are you calling me and besides what are you doing at home by this time of the day?" Sarah said as she finally sat up. Outside, the harmattan tore across the mansion, ruffling the plants in a circular garden, bending the leaves and branches of trees, coating the parked cars with dust. None of this seemed to matter to Christabel as she washed the dishes, her eyes were swollen with tears and the area around her right eye was the black-purple shade of an overripe avocado. She was smiling at Sarah jokes who was dramatising and gesturing with her hands to tell how funny the jokes were but one could instantly tell the smile was not genuine. Christabel had learnt to cushion the effects of her situation in life with hard work, and here her work - the source of her motivation was going down the drain right before her very eyes, her solution to the problem was to act fast, was to save her falling job and pride...but then, how will that happen? Graduating with good grades, getting a good job and working hard to fill the vacuum her dad left behind. Everything that happened felt like a stage play to Daniel; except that the scenes were poorly written. It felt like a joke; an awful joke.
