Duty To Fulfill

Nikaulas returned home to an empty hall. The sofa she used to sit on was without any trace of her. She wasn't there waiting like she always did. It shouldn't have affected him but it did. Ignoring the prickling disappointment, he climbed up the stairs.

Two days went like this. He watched Angela from afar. She was laughing, smiling, talking to others like her usual self. It was difficult to reconcile her with the woman who had seemed so broken that night. But now he had learned to see through her facade.

The woman occasionally smiled at him too but now her eyes didn't glitter with hopeless affection as they used to before that fateful night. It was then he realised how used to he had become to her special smile that she had only for him.

For the first time, he was without a plan. He didn't know what to do next. She had offered to divorce him on her expense then why did he not take it? He should have been happy but instead he was caught by a sinking feeling. He was gritting his teeth
