“Your Alpha is a piece of work ain’t he?” I ask walking back down the hallway with the burly werewolf trying to follow behind me.
“He’s a good man.” He answers.
“For that girl's sake in there, I hope he’s a good lay.” I laugh, I walk out of the front door and down the steps and turn to look at the werewolf. “Oh, and the next time you go in the club saying you’re going to test a vampire, think again.”
“I misspoke but I won’t be asked about shots.” He shivers “I hate those things.” He looks down.
“You’re new so we will forgive it this time lurch,” I say smiling.
“Markus. My name is Markus.” He looks offended.
“Markus.” I nod, turning my Dyna on.
I get back to my club, walking in the back door. Dillan and Tracy are arguing over something already. Didn’t they just both clock in?
“Hey!” I whistle loudly to get their attention “What the fuck now?” I ask holding my arms out at my sides.
“Dillan says I ordered too much Tequila.” Tracy whines.
“Tracy stop whining. Dillan what happened?” I say rubbing my forehead. Tracy was a new vampire. She had just turned 17 which meant I let her work and help me with paperwork for my business, and answer phones. I remembered being 17 with nowhere in sight to go and no help.
“This chick just straight ordered 1000 fifths of Tequila.” He said shaking his head.
“Okay, and the order can’t be canceled?” I asked, seeing Tracy on the verge of tears.
“Nope. No can do.”
“Okay here’s what we do Dillan. We get the Tequila and do Tequila Twosdays, and charge two bucks a shot of Tequila. More people will come, therefore we will offset the cost and get more people.” I say and start walking away.
“Wait. You really think that’ll work?” Dillan asks.
“Of course! These humans love to drink shit that makes them act a fool.” I laugh.
Tracy follows close behind me.
“What Tracy?” I ask stopping in the middle of my empty club.
“So, um “ She looks at the floor.
“What?” I ask starting to get annoyed.
“The Alpha Morpheus called asking to meet with you.”
“And?”
“I said yes, and scheduled him for 3 pm in your conference room.”
I look at the clock behind the bar it was 2:15.
“Tracy, what? Why?” I say rushing towards the elevator. Whenever an Alpha wanted to meet it was seldom any good.
“I’m sorry, did I do something else wrong?” Tracy whined.
“No get to the conference area, fifteenth floor and get it ready, and Tracy stop whining.” I say as the doors close.
I push the P1 button on the elevator. I lived on the top of the building. I had various apartments created for the vampires who didn’t have homes, which was most of them. They paid back into the building and worked for me. I employed Lycan and Vampire but mostly vampire. At 19 my grandmother, on my mother’s side found me. Why she couldn’t have searched for me as a child was beyond me, but she found me and attempted to make a decent relationship. At the time I was working in a coffee shop barely making ends meet. She didn’t know what I was, but she knew I was different. Her daughter had committed suicide when I was around 13 and in the foster care system. I was her only heir, and she left her wealth to me. At 21 she passed away. Now six years later I had created a safe place for vampires. I hated that we were cast out. The Lycans had their packs, we only had ourselves. So starting this business, was rocky at first. My father fought me at every turn. Created rules, and regulations, and paid people off to break in. However, when he stepped down, my half-sister, Alpha of the Zion pack left well enough alone. She didn’t help, but she didn’t hurt either. She was raised to have animosity toward me. Everyone always questioned why I didn’t hold the white irises to my eyes like they did, causing them to wear contacts if they went among the humans. I ended up with the eyes of a cat, slit upward with an orange-red tint to them, the color changed depending on the mood according to others, but I never noticed, because I rarely looked in the mirror.
I changed quickly throwing my torn jeans and t-shirt away. I stepped into my closet and picked a black suit I wore to most business meetings with the humans. Placing the heels on my feet and glanced toward the clock. Time to go.
I entered the conference room expecting Morpheus and his mate Althea, instead, I was face to face with the man I had just tossed a head at while he was buried balls deep in a cute little blonde.
“Morpheus.” I nodded trying to hide my surprise.
“Katya.” He stood, smiling his infectious smile. Morpheus wanted change. He wanted to rid forbidding anyone from packs and wanted vampires and Lycan to work side by side for a change. His wife Althea was just as open to the idea, while all the other Lycans believed we should be beneath them.
I smiled back. I turn to look at the man with him. He was quite good-looking with his blue eyes and black hair. He stood taller than me by a foot. Morpheus was easily 6’5 and 220 pounds but seemed like a teddy bear to anyone who knew him.
“I’m Killian,” Killian said, holding his hand out.
“Nice to see you again this time without the blonde attachment,” I say shaking his hand.
“Well normally princess when you barge into someone’s house you walk into shit you don’t want to, you know.” He said fixing his tie.
“Hope you washed your hands,” I say walking to the head of the table. “Morpheus what’s up?”
“Well now that the two of you are done with your lover's quarrel.” He laughed. “We have an issue.”
“What issue. You have an issue. The werewolves have an issue. I a lonely vampire hold no issue.” I say leaning back in my chair.
Killian goes into a coughing fit. “Vampire?” He asks.
“Yes Killian, a vampire. That is what I am.” I state showing my annoyance. “While you are new here I’ll forgive the rudeness in your tone, but I am a vampire.”
“No Katya, we have an issue.” Morpheus states.
“What?” I say rolling my eyes towards Killian and looking back at Morpheus.
“ I live on the town's western border, and more and more vampires and Lycan are disappearing. I refuse to forbid my people so I know that something is going on.” The concern in his eyes was genuine.
“Disappearing?” I was starting to get a headache, which rarely happened unless I missed my injections.
“Yes, I had a couple of vampires residing in my bounds and they would kill the forbidden or work for our shops. I told you I wanted to integrate your people with mine, anyway, a few days ago our second vampire and third Lycan left without a trace.”
“My people. As if I command them at will.” I scoff. “No the vampire people live and work on their own, I only provide a safe haven if you will.”
“When did this start happening?” I ask.
“About a month ago. It’s happening at an astonishing rate.” He answered.
“Althea?” I ask, knowing she would have a say in this.
“She is concerned, having only birthed our daughter, she can’t do much but worry.”
“The other packs?” I ask looking to Killian.
“I just took over sweet cheeks, and our rosters are sort of, um off.” He answered rubbing the back of his neck.
“Off?” I ask raising my eyebrow.
“Okay, nonexistent. Derrick really screwed the pooch on some stuff out there, but I’m working on it.” He answered irritated.
“So why come to me?” I ask.
“You, Katya are the most lethal huntress I know. You fear nothing, and I was hoping you could help me er us figure this out. Plus it affects your people also, and before you say the vampire doesn’t follow you they do. I was planning on offering us to the council to consider the vampire a whole, a pack if you will if someone will lead. We have to work together. Something is going on.”
Morpheus hardly ever panicked. He was a man that thought before he acted, which is why he and I got along so well. I look at him and sigh.
“Meet with the council, see what they want to do about this issue, not bringing our people into a pack, because I don’t want the responsibility of a pack, but see what they decide, and let me know,” I say standing up.
“You lead and hold responsibility without knowing.” Morpheus stands up with Killian following.
Killian held his hand out to shake again. I took it not wanting to make Morpheus uncomfortable. I felt the shock and electricity arc from him to me, and from me to him, we both jumped back surprised.
“That was weird. “ He said, holding his hand and looking at it.
“I’ll be seeing you both,” I say starting to walk away.
“Hey Goth Barbie next time can you knock?” Killian asks loudly behind me.
“What and miss the show?” I ask walking to my office and closing the door.
That electricity was definitely odd. I looked at my hand. Okay yeah, he was definitely good looking but I didn’t need my hand zapping everyone I thought was cute.
I sat in Morpheus' car watching the buildings go by. “She’s an odd one,” I say, not looking away from the window. “Odd?” Morpheus quips. “No Killian, not odd, strong. She went through a lot before she got where she is.” “What do you mean?” I ask. “Her father was the Alpha to the Zions. Her mother was human. She was abandoned by her mom when she was eight. She went from orphanages to the foster care system, to living on the streets, and showed back up here when she was 18 or 19, hungry, tiny, and broken. She looked and found her father, who already had his heir and his mate, and he kicked her out, with no help.” He shakes his head angrily. “As a new father, I can not imagine turning any child of mine out, whether it be Lycan or Vampire.” “She doesn’t smell Vampire,” I say. “No, she doesn’t. She doesn’t resemble them either. She was never a perfect fit in any world, but she is here. She stands tall and proud. I’ve witnessed her bloody for battle, where no one should have stayed st
The rain pelted my windows in the penthouse. I looked down to the city below. Rain brought memories back that were never good. Why were vampires and werewolves going missing? Where were they going? Why the hell did Morpheus insist on it being me that helps?I walked away from the windows, towards my bedroom. Maybe sleep would come to me, and allow me some form of peace. Nope. 2 am and my phone was going crazy. “What!?” I answer half asleep. “Katya, I am so sorry but you have to get down here. It’s a big ass brawl.” Dillan yelled through the phone. I could hear things smashing in the background. “Ughhhhhh, I’ll be right there.” I jump out of bed grabbing my boots. I stare at myself in the reflection of the elevator, oh this is great! I was in a hello kitty tank top and my Spanx shorts. I roll my eyes. My messy bun flopping everywhere. I attempt to fix my hair and fail miserably as the doors swing open and I see the pandemonium occurring on the second floor. “Enough!” I yell s
I walked in behind Katya to her conference room, looking at Markus who had refused to answer me through our mind-link. She sits down in the chair closest to Markus. “Okay, what gives?” She asks. “I wasn’t doing a thing, just having a good time and I overheard Grunt talking, and I didn’t agree with what he said,” Markus said looking at Katya. “Well, Markus what did he say? Honestly, this is the second time I’ve had an incident with you, and in my book, that’s too many. I started the club for everyone to have a nice place with no fights and just to chill.” Katya says, shaking her head. It amazed me that this badass fighter was sitting across from my Beta trying to understand what happened. She wanted to know the reasoning. I, myself, would have kicked everyone’s asses out and they could see where to go from there. Why did she want to understand? “Look, I didn’t agree with what he said is all. It escalated from there.” Markus answers shaking his head and looking out of the window.
Well, that was unexpected. I had only weakened to this point one time before, and it was my second fight against a forbidden; nearly cost me my life. Normally, the injections lasted longer than this. Why were they being so ineffective as of late? “Katya, hey, you okay?” Killian asked kneeling on one knee next to me. “Um, yeah,” I answer, attempting to get up, but my legs and feet had gone numb. Shit. “Then why are you on the floor?” Killian says, really showing concern. “Do me a favor, and push the P1 button when you get out on the fifteenth floor please,” I say moving my fingers to keep them from going numb. “When I get out on the fifteenth floor?” Killian scoffs, “And you’re just going to drag yourself around on the floor like a dog hit by a car?” “No, well not exactly,” I say, trying to think of a game plan. “Either, you let me help you, or we can ride up and down this bitch all night,” Killian says, sitting down next to me. I roll my eyes. “I was worried you were going to
I walked out into my living room to Markus and Killian eating my chips, and a sandwich that looked like it came out of a cartoon. “You’re pretty well stocked for a vamp.” Markus states taking a bite out of his sandwich. “I do eat food,” I answer rolling my eyes. “Wait, do most eat food,” Killian asks, looking confused. “Most don’t but can, I however do need it to survive,” I say walking over and grabbing a yogurt from the fridge. “Really?” Markus asks, surprised. “Okay guys, like seriously did you like never take a minute to look or understand vampires, oh wait nope vampires don’t mean shit right?” I say irritated. “Look, Katya, no we didn’t because we were raised to believe the vampire was less than, like most of our brother and sisters. We are curious, not because we are rude, but because we want a better understanding. Markus, and I, myself are not necessarily cold-hearted, and are open to change,” Killian states leaning on my island, “we are learning if you will, and unders
“You okay?” Markus asked as we were driving home the next day. “Yeah man, why?” I ask. “I’ve never seen you stay under the same roof as a woman, save for your sister,” He shivers, he felt the same as I about Sarai, “and not act on it.” “She’s different,” I answer. “Good different, or bad different?” Markus looks at my raising an eyebrow. “I don’t know man, different.” I laugh. “Ah, good different. I don’t judge, she’s interesting for sure.” Markus says. “So, you think it was Grunt that slashed your tires?” I ask changing the subject. “Yeah, I think it was that bitch, but nice try in changing the subject.” Markus laughed. “What? I was talking about your car.” I laugh. When we got to the house Amber was waiting, very upset. “What Amber?” I ask getting out of the car, and walking towards her. “What’s wrong?” “I heard through the grapevine that you stayed at the abomination’s place last night. Did you have fun?” She answered standing, crossing her arms. “Um, I’ll talk to you
I sat on the bar looking at every single vampire on the main floor, staring back at me. “Okay guys, thanks for coming, so I’m letting you all know what I know okay. There’s something going on and our people are going missing along with the werewolves. I need you all to be aware of your surroundings at all times, when I find more information out I’ll let you know, just be careful.” I say, hearing the whispers startup. “Where are they going?” Velcon, an older vampire asked concern etching on his face.“We don’t know.” I hated not having answers but they deserved to know what was going on. “So, what are we supposed to do about all of this?” Luscious, another vampire asks. “You wait for us to figure it out,” Killian said walking in from the double doors that led to the club. “Wait for a wolf, to help the vamp?” Luscious laughed. “It’s always been us serving you, why would it change?” Luscious held contempt for the werewolves and was the first to fight one if anything negative was ev
“I’ve been called many things, Killian, never special.” She scoffed. I had meant it though. She was special. She was like I had very much told Markus earlier, different. “It’s true,” I said shrugging and leaning back. She snorted, “Okay yeah. You bump your head before coming here?” She stood up quickly. “Now, is that all? I have to go.” “Where are you going?” I ask. “None of your damn business.” She says walking towards her room. Was she going to go see someone? Wait, why did I feel it was my business? “Katya,” I say, getting up and following her. “Hold up, I’m sorry I just want to know if it had to do with something I could help with.” I crashed into her room trying to stop her and caught her in her bra and lace underwear. Holy shit, she was gorgeous. “Are you kidding me?” She yelps, holding her t-shirt in front of her body. “Oh shit, I’m sorry,” I say turning around so quick I bumped into the door jam. I had fucked several women in my twenty-five years of life and never act
