Overthinking things.

Connor.

There was a sharp intake of breath. She looked . Her gaze was glassy and foggy, like she was in a trance.

“Karina?” fear crept up my throat instantly. The urge to go to her, comfort her.

What was happening to her?

A small sound suddenly came and I drifted to the bundle in her arms, moving furiously. Levi had made that noise but didn't cry. Was she holding him tight?

That seemed to be the wake up call for her. She looked down and hushed Levi, cooing softly at him. I watched in silence as she silently laid him beside her, loosening the wrap before settling back to face me. When she looked up the glassy stare was gone.

“Continue.” I blinked in surprise at the sound of her voice. She sounded hardened, anger and bitterness lying underneath it. Her gaze was stony, jaw hardened.

Any woman would feel the same at a heinous action.

Yet a deadly thought lurked in the back of my mind. Was it solely because of Isabella or was it from something deeper?
