Chapter 2

Chapter 02

God, was he handsome.

My eyes remained fixed on him, taking his appearance in. He had chocolate brown hair which was toppled lazily on his head. The sun subtly struck his face, complementing his skin, which appeared smooth and silky. He also had a very tall and muscular figure.

I ogled at how good he looked as my eyes travelled over his features, before going back up to his face. Although he was undeniably very handsome, his eyes were what intrigued me the most about him. They were ocean blue, a shade of blue that seemed to shimmer without even trying; it was beautiful.

He also just kept staring at me like I just fell down from the sky. He had this look of amusement plastered on his face that made me feel both confident and self-conscious at the same time.

Then, I snapped out of it.

"You moron! You almost just ran me over!" I shouted at him.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me." He chuckled humorlessly. "You were the one who barged into the middle of the road like a nut job."

"Oh yeah, I'm the nut job." I said, mostly to myself. "You know what? Fuck you!"

"Oh, fuck me?" He raised his voice, walking over to me. "You should be thanking me that I didn't run you over, you ungrateful bitch!"

"What the hell did you just call me?" I shoved his chest.

"You heard me."

I hit him again.

"What on earth made you run straight into the middle of the road?" He asked me. " I could've killed you."

I picked up the ice cream bag. "It flew into the road."

He stifled a laughter.

"Something funny?" I scowled at him.

"Yes actually, you risked your life for ice cream?"

"Um, it's none of your damn business, it's my life," I told him sternly. "And I really love ice cream."

He gazed at me for a moment, just staring at me like some freak.

"Dean." He offered his hand. "Dean Ryan."

I squinted from the sunlight, hesitating when I shook his hand and said; "Grace. Grace Anderson."

It was only when I heard the aggressive sounds of honks and curses at us that it occurred to me that we were in the middle of the road and making quite a scene.

"Get the fuck out of the road!" I heard someone shout and honk his car.

Although I knew I was wrong, I stuck out my middle finger and stepped out of the road. Dean, on the other hand, got into his car and parked on the side.

I was about walking away when I heard my name being called out.

"Hey! Grace!"

I turned around to see Dean.

"What?" I asked him, my brows furrowed.

"Um, I was wondering if you could um--"

"Grace?" I saw Chris walking over to me.

"Oh, hey Chris." I said. "Can we go now?"

"Grace, you won't believe who I saw toda-" he stopped talking when he noticed Dean. "Who are you?"

"Dean. Nice to meet you." Dean smiled politely.

I saw the interest grow in Chris' eyes. "Nice to meet you too. Are you a friend of Grace?"

Dean was about to speak when I said, "No."

"Ouch."

"We're not friends. You're a guy who almost killed me today."

He smiled at me.

Why was he smiling at me?

"C'mon Chris, let's go home." I said, taking Chris by his arm.

"Nice meeting you, Dean." Chris said in his girly voice, waving his fingers at him.

He hung his hands over my shoulder and intertwined our fingers as we started walking away.

I couldn't help but look back at Dean and to my surprise, he was still standing there, wearing a confused look. I waved slightly at him and his lips curved into a dimple dented smile.

I felt eyes on me and noticed it was Chris'.

"What?"

He just squealed in response as we got to his car and he drove us back home.

* * * *

When we got home, I took a quick shower and got on my bed. I was doing this research project for my COMPLIT 121 POETRY class. I don't know how long it took before I was done but immediately I finished, I neatly arranged everything back in their proper places. And it was in that moment my stomach hinted to me that it was time to get some food.

I made my way out of my room and to the kitchen. My hand pulled the refrigerator open to see that it was stacked with groceries.

"Chris?!" I shouted, taking out three packets of Oreos and a carton of milk.

"Yes?!" He shouted back, his voice coming from the living room.

I took out a glass cup from the cabinet and accommodated everything in my hands as I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room.

"You bought groceries?" I asked my very stupid question, walking over to the faded blue couch he was seated on.

"No, I didn't. The grocery fairy just stuffed our fridge with 'em." He said, making his stupid mannerisms.

"That was so lame." I rolled my eyes, plopping down on the couch. "I mean, when did you have the time to go get everything?"

"While you were studying." He said, taking a packet of Oreos from me.

"Should I, like, pay you half the money you spent?" I questioned, looking at him.

"No Grace, it's okay." He let out a soft laugh.

"Chris--"

"Grace, it's okay. I got this one." He flashed me a smile. "I'm the big boy here and I'm supposed to be taking care of you. And you can always buy groceries the next time we're out of them."

"Fair enough." I nodded slowly.

We were glancing at the TV and eating in silence before out of nowhere, Chris boomed at me;

"Oh my god, Grace! Who was that hot dreamy guy you were with today?!"

"What hot dreamy guy?"

"Dean, duh." He dragged on his words. "You waved at him Grace! That's not something I see everyday."

I had totally forgotten about him.

"Oh. I don't know, he was a guy." I drank from my glass of milk.

"Grace? A-A guy? Did you see his hair? His eyes? His chest? His muscles? His abs? He was totally and absolutely beauuutiful."

I raised an eyebrow, "You saw his abs through his shirt?"

"That's not the point here, G."

"So, what is your point?"

"You should totally call him." He nudged my shoulder.

I glanced at the TV, chewing on my Oreos, "Didn't take his number."

"Who-What the fuck, Grace? How could you not have taken his number?!" He almost looked pained.

"Um, Chris, that guy almost ran me over today. It's not like I'd flirt with him immediately after and ask for his number." I said, trying to make sense.

"Oh my God." He muttered disappointedly, rubbing his temples. "He was so hot, you just blew your chance!"

"Chance at what? Chance at a relationship?" I laughed humorlessly. "What do I need that for? I've only ever had two boyfriends and that never went well and I honestly don't need another one right now. And there's no way in hell that someone like Dean could even be interested in someone like me. Like you said yourself, look at him."

"You are so much better than you believe yourself to be, Grace."

"Whatever, I'd probably never see him again." I shrugged, turning up the volume of the TV.
