Zack's POV

Breathing heavily, I was happy that I knew where Kaine was going and was thinking of a plan.

But then I was frustrated at how Kaine found me out. If it was not because Kaine lost me because I was Lucky, he would have seen me.

That was it. Going back home I entered my room but was shocked when I heard a voice behind me asking me where I was.

I turned around to find Freda standing in the doorway, her eyes wide with concern.

I hadn't expected her to wake up and catch me sneaking back into the house. Panic surged through me as I tried to come up with a convincing explanation.

"Freda, what are you doing up?" I stammered, desperately searching for a way to divert her attention from my late-night excursion.

Her gaze narrowed, and she crossed her arms, clearly not buying my feeble attempt at deflection. "Don't try to change the subject, Zack. I asked you a question. Where were you?"
