My lips part as I look at my brother’s calm face. He asked me a simple question, and I know I should answer him, but I can’t be honest. Victor wishes to keep it a secret that I’m dating him, and I respect that. Stanley can be left in the dark for now, even if it makes me feel guilty since he just opened up to me.

I sigh and blink when the streetlights come to life above our heads. It’s getting dark outside, yet Stanley makes no move to get up from the park bench. His eyes are intense and patiently waiting for my answer, so I lie to him.

“No, where did you get that strange idea from? Victor and I are definitely not dating. He is like a brother to me!” I shake my head and snort, hoping to convince him. “The three of us grew up together—it would be so weird to date Victor! He is also your best friend and dating your brother’s best friend? Nah, thank you. That’s another weird thing to do, right?”
