31. It's My Seat

"Excuse me, ma'am, but I think you might be sitting in the wrong seat."

I glance up at the flight attendant—a blonde lady with red-lipstick, strong rogue on her cheeks, and blonde hair put up in a neat bun. She is wearing high heels and a smile despite clearly thinking I'm sitting in the wrong seat.

I smile right back at her. "No, this is definitely my seat."

"Are you certain?" she asks. "Because this is a first-class seat reserved for Mr. Giovanni and his companion."

Part of me wants to ask her why I couldn't be that companion. If she thinks I look cheap or something, but instead, I swallow back my bitterness. Going to Portugal will be a fun thing for me and Victor to do, and I won't let this flight attendant ruin this bubbly let's-go-see-places mood I'm in.

I wet my lips and smile politely. "Yes, I'm that companion. This is my seat."
