“Are you sure, Mrs. Hayes? The footage was quite graphic to watch, even for Jasper and Frank. You might not want—”

“I want to see the footage, and I want to figure out if I can identify the people in it. I could even testify if it turns out to be Jasper.” I shrugged.

At the opportunity, the detectives looked at each other and silently agreed to it as it would be an added advantage to them as well.

“I’ll come as well,” Solene volunteered, standing up and leaving the house as we went back to the police department.

My heart was up in my throat the closer we got to the room where they would show us the footage, and I had the sudden urge to turn around and bail. How could I possibly watch a video of Mariah being thrown off a bridge?

I felt Solene snake her fingers around my hand.

“It’s going to be fine. I’ll hold your hand throughout. It doesn’t have to be hard for us to do this,” she encouraged, and something told me she needed those words more than I did.
