"De-Deric?" Caraline turned her head for a moment, squeezing her dress. "What did I ask him for? I can't do it."

"Why?" asked Diego, "isn't he just a dog?"

Helen and Lucy, who had overheard the conversation, turned their heads. They exchanged glances for a moment but then chose to remain silent.

"Come on, having a dog isn't that difficult," Diego persuaded.

"Unfortunately, I don't want to let him out of the house. Deric just had an accident."

"An accident? What happened to him?" Diego asked.

Caraline let out a long breath. "Yes, he did. That's why I don't want him to go through anything heartbreaking again."

"I won't hurt him. So"

"So, I won't come to the dinner if you keep talking about Deric in front of me." Caraline rolled her eyes. For some reason, she was getting annoyed with Diego. The man seemed genuinely curious about Deric.

Diego was suddenly thoughtful. "Alright, I won't talk about it anymore. But, you have to invite me to dinner."

"You get what you want."
