Chapter 6

Lorena POV

I walked into the old house with my luggage. It was ten in the morning, and most of the people in the house had gone to work. Only Alpha King, Luna, and Ruby were at home.

"Oh, you finally decided to come back," Ruby said sarcastically. "You ran away on the first night at the Rodriguez's house, and I thought you hated us so much that you had no intention of returning."

"Ruby, you misunderstood," I said, my expression changing and my dark eyes showing a hint of sadness. "It wasn't my intention to leave. Seth told me to get out, and I was hurt, so I left."

"What? That brat dared to tell you to leave," King exclaimed, furious.

Luna, on the other hand, always protected her son. She said, "Seth didn't know her well before, so it's understandable that he couldn't accept it at once. But you..."

She paused and stared at me with disapproval. "You're too weak. If Seth tells you to leave, you just leave. If he tells you to die, will you do it? How can you be Luna like this?"

I pretended to seriously consider for a few seconds and said softly, "My father always told me that when married, follow the husband, and when the husband dies, follow the son."

"Utter nonsense," King stood up and scolded, "From now on, don't take Seth's words seriously. If he dares to bully you, just come to me, I'll take care of him."

"Thank you, King," I expressed gratitude but felt conflicted. Among everyone in this family, King is probably the only one who has a good impression of me. However, in order to separate from Seth, I have to make Pei father dislike me.

"Help Lorena bring the luggage upstairs," King instructed the butler.

The servant quickly took the things from my hand and carried them upstairs. When the servant was about to enter Seth's master bedroom, I stopped her and asked, "Is there a guest bedroom on the second floor? Please help me bring the luggage to the guest bedroom."

The servant hesitated, feeling troubled, "Miss, do you want to sleep separately from Young Master Seth?"

Before I could answer, King's serious voice came from behind, "What separate rooms? Move in together, and by the way, isn't there a sofa inside? Take it out."

King really went all out with this move, depriving me of even the privilege to sleep on the couch. I turned around with a pained expression, "I'm not very familiar with Seth, it wouldn't be appropriate for us to share a room. I..."

"He works during the day, and if you both sleep in separate rooms at night, you'll be even less familiar," King sneered, "I can't believe I have to teach you about this kind of thing."

What is King talking about? My face instantly turned red. After reluctantly moving into the master bedroom, I didn't rush to unpack my luggage, just in case Seth tells me to leave again, then I wouldn't have to pack up.

After lying in the upstairs room for a while, I started getting restless and couldn't help but want to go downstairs to see what was going on. As I was halfway down the stairs, I heard the voices of two women chatting in the living room.

"Ruby, don't say that, I heard that the Jones family used to be a prominent clan. I heard Lorena's father made a fortune in real estate. My family even told me that when they were buying a house, they actually encountered Walter Jones, who was a real estate agent," a coquettish female voice said.

Ruby, upon hearing this, looked even more disdainful, "It's so embarrassing."

"I was originally going downstairs to get a glass of water, but I happened to overhear this conversation. The voices were not too loud, but I could hear them clearly, even if I wanted to be deaf.

"Ruby, where did we embarrass you?" I said, while assessing the woman next to Ruby.

She appeared to be a few years older than me, with clear and gentle features, exuding an elegant and refined demeanor. However, her face was covered in tears, the kind that could soften a man's heart when she cried.

Ruby also looked me up and down, dressed in my casual clothes. "You embarrass us from head to toe," Ruby bluntly said.

I retorted, "If you think I'm embarrassing, then why don't you just kick me out?"

Ruby chuckled with anger, her disdain evident in her eyes. "Even if you managed to enter our family through this opportunity, your background will never change."

I was puzzled, "What does that have to do with you?"

"You!" Ruby stood up in frustration, looking like she wanted to teach me a lesson right then and there."

"It is indeed the truth." I lifted my head confidently and looked at her. "And in the end, the majority of people are just ordinary families. There's nothing shameful about starting a small business and climbing up step by step with one's own efforts. In other words, I don't believe you would have lived any better than us in the same circumstances."

Although I said that, it doesn't mean I'm speaking for Walter. It's just that I always remember the life when I couldn't afford enough food and clothing as a child. So I really don't like Ruby's constant look of disdain towards her. What difference does it make if she has a better background than me?

In front of others, I kept contradicting her, making Ruby's face turn red with anger. When she couldn't retort, the woman next to her quickly grabbed Ruby's hand. "Ruby, she is still so young, it's just childish talk, there's no need to get angry with a child."

Ruby took a deep breath. She tightened her grip on the woman's hand. "How about introducing us?" the woman changed the topic.

Ruby took another deep breath. After a pause, she said to me, "Come, let me introduce you. This is Nola Barlow, the daughter of the Alpha of Mighty Moon Pack and Seth's ex-girlfriend. Seth had an accident on the day he was supposed to send her abroad. Thanks to Nola's parents keeping it a secret from her to prevent her from worrying, otherwise, you wouldn't have been able to set foot inside my house."

I suddenly realized that there was a play going on. But I don't believe that Nola really doesn't know about Seth's car accident. The more privileged someone is, the more they care about their own interests. They wouldn't allow themselves to be at a disadvantage. Now, saying all this, it's probably because Nola saw Seth wake up and wants to get closer to him again.

"Oh, I see." I nodded slowly, without expressing my opinion.

Ruby and Nola waited for a while, and when they saw that I didn't say anything after listening, and that there was no expression on my face, they became a little impatient. Ruby impatiently said, "Nola is the world's top violinist. Look at you, can you compare to her? If I were you, I would automatically give up my seat."

"Alright, I'll give up my seat." I immediately stood up and moved away from the sofa I was sitting on. "Miss Barlow, please have a seat here."

"Are you trying to make me angry? Did I say to give up this seat?" Ruby's anger, which she had just managed to suppress, suddenly flared up again.

I sighed softly, "Ruby, if you think Miss Barlow is so great, why don't you give up your own seat as well? Miss Barlow is too excellent, so naturally, the best seat should go to her as a member of the family."

"You're asking for trouble." Ruby couldn't contain her anger anymore and grabbed a cup from the table, throwing it at me.

I quickly moved my body and dodged it.

Ruby, furious, was about to charge at me when Nola grabbed her again. "Ruby, don't argue with her anymore. Don't get yourself worked up. It's my fault, I shouldn't have come today. I'll leave now and come visit you another time."

Ruby calmed down for a moment and then gave me a fierce glare. "Nola, I'll walk you out." And she quickly caught up with Nola.

I watched their backs and raised an eyebrow. This Nola seems quite cunning. I took a sip of the tea on the table and glanced at the two elegant boxes.

I was curious, but I didn't dare touch them. If I did, it could bring trouble. After drinking a few sips of tea, and to avoid running into Ruby again, I got up and went back to Seth's bedroom. However, I hadn't been there for long when I heard a commotion outside the door, followed by the sound of someone banging on the door.

"Lorena, get out of here."

I was sitting at the desk, intending to finish my summer paper. The chair was barely warm when Ruby burst in, in a hurry.

"What's wrong now?"

I barely finished speaking when Ruby was already in front of me, demanding loudly, "Lorena, where did you put my necklace?"

"What necklace?"

"The necklace Nola brought for me. Hand it over quickly. That necklace is worth millions."

Ruby was rummaging through the desk in front of me, talking as she did so. "I don't know anything about a necklace," I said, confused. "I haven't even seen it."

"Don't play dumb. The necklace was in the box on the table, and you were the only one here. If it wasn't you, then who could it be?" Ruby said, frustrated.

"That's not my stuff. I didn't take anything without permission," I responded, annoyed at the accusations.

"You're not admitting it, huh?" Ruby didn't believe me. "Erin, search her suitcase. She must have hidden it there."

The butler looked at me, hesitant to intervene, but Ruby went ahead to search. The butler had no choice but to follow.

Ruby quickly found my luggage and swiftly opened it, throwing all my clothes and belongings onto the floor. She complained, "What a bunch of junk."

That sight deeply wounded my pride. I couldn't help but rush over and forcefully push Ruby aside.

After being pushed to the ground, Ruby regained her senses and couldn't believe it. "You dare to hit me."

She was furious and got up, charging towards me. "Without my permission, who gave you the right to go through my things?"

With a growl, she pinned me to the ground, threateningly. I refused to back down and fought back with all my strength. We wrestled with each other. As her claws scratched my face, I realized that Ruby was ready to do serious harm. Just as I was about to retaliate, Seth's stern shout came from the doorway.
