After I've bitten Amelia, she turns limp in my arms. I'm not sure where the instinct to bite her came from, but I'm glad she allowed me to leave a mark on her neck.

It seems my teeth formed something that resembles a tattoo—it's the shape of a half-moon and turning into a shade of cyan.

"It's starting to turn dark," Amelia mumbles while resting her head against my chest, right above my heart. Can she feel it beating for her? "I have to go back... But I don't want to go. Not after I've finally found you again."

I begin walking for the shore through the cold water while breathing in the scent of her hair. My eyes close on their own, and I intuitively press her harder into me, determined to warm up her cool skin.

"It's not like this is the last time we will see each other," I tell her in a low voice. "We will meet again."
