Chapter 61

Amelia

I've had better days. Blood covers the entire floor, taking my thoughts back to when I was a child and painted a paper with red watercolor. I filled the whole white area with this creamy, bloodshot color. And my father hung the painting on the refrigerator—somehow, Ryan's severed legs reminded me of that.

For twisted reasons, I can't stop staring at the blood—I'm too entranced by the richness of the tone.

"It hurts!" Ryan roars. He tries to punch one of the men but fails due to his impractical state. "Stop doing that! You already took my legs; you don't need my arms as well!"

Blue is barking and tries to jump at one hybrid, but a large boot quickly kicks him away. The dog whimpers and lowers its head, tail already between its legs.

Great.

It seems I have to do everything by myself.

My mind turns calculative, and I absorb the scene in silence.
