Chapter 17

Eden looks at Bennett’s car as it drives away. The red Toyota, too, drives away shortly. Eden could not move from the pavement, she looked at the floor and begged her feet to take her back to the house, but they wouldn’t listen. Her heart was fluttering, and she was still breathing heavily. She knew she was not supposed to feel any of it. Knowing how calm Bennett was about it, it was embarrassing how much it was affecting her. She understood that it was just a publicity stunt because a reporter had been tailing him. She forced her mind to stop thinking about anything and walk back home. She could still feel the wetness on her lips, and for some reason, she wanted it to stay that way.
