Curtis pulled his hand away from Calvin.

"Do you think it's a good idea for me to go see Margot right now?"

Calvin paused. "What's wrong?"

"She doesn't remember me," Curtis said.

He didn't want Margot to remember him and his daughter. If she remembered everything, she would be overwhelmed by grief. He wouldn't be able to bear seeing Margot sad.

Calvin sat back down. "So what do you plan to do?"

"I can start over and get to know her again," Curtis proposed.

"Start over as a new person with a new identity and get to know her again?" Calvin asked.

Curtis explained, "Losing Lilac is a pain that will stay with me forever, but I can bear it alone.

She can just stay as she is, carefree and worry-free. That's good enough for me."

Calvin thought that this was not a bad idea. He remembered how Margot was when she lost her daughter, and if they hadn't hypnotized her, she might have gone crazy. Even now, Curtis had returned, but Lilac was still missing.
