Chapt 2: Walk Out

Abby looked at herself in the mirror in her room. She decided not to go home and chose to get ready at the office because she didn't want to waste time. She couldn't be late because her plans started with this event.

She stepped gingerly into the ballroom. Hundreds of guests were already there, mingling, and their conversations must have been all about business. Abby was tired of talking about business at parties. Except today. Because she was going to cast her net from here.

If she was in a good mood, it might not matter if she talked to a few people—only a few important people. Others not.

However, Abby suddenly did not want to mingle with anyone. Except for the crown prince of the Emerson family. She then chose a place in the corner of the room, deliberately keeping out of sight because she didn't like it when people with dirty business brains approached her.

Who doesn't know her? A businesswoman who was one of the most successful young business candidates.

"There you are," said a middle-aged man with a flushed face and nose, approaching her. "Why are you always hiding, hm?"

Abby looked right and left, ensuring the man was talking to her. However, there was no one besides her, who, unluckily, was not mingling with the other guests.

"Are you talking to me?" Abby asked and was then surprised by the man's action, who immediately grabbed her wrist.

"Don't be a sell-out, missy. I know you've slept with many successful businessmen who made you comfortable in your current position." The man leaned closer, and Abby could smell the alcohol from his mouth. "Come with me. They have some VIP rooms in this place."

"Mind your speech and demeanor, sir. If you know me, I unfortunately don't know you."

Abby tried to break the drunk man's grip, but she was unsuccessful. She began to regret her juvenile delinquency of skipping every taekwondo class. If not, she could easily break free right now.

The man got closer and almost kissed her lips, which made her feel sick because of the foul smell that came out of the man's mouth.

She didn't want to make a scene by shouting aloud, but what else could she do?

Abby sighed before squealing while still trying to break free.

"Let go of me!"

"Come on, Miss. I promised just one night, and I won't play rough."

"Hey, let her go!"

Abby and the man instantly turned their heads at the sound of a deep baritone voice that managed to outwit the drunk man so that Abby could shift her body and stand behind the young man who had just come and become her knight in shining armour.

"What are you doing here? You shouldn't have come." The drunk man asked while holding on to the wall to support his staggering body.

"Tsk! YOU shouldn't have come. You weren't invited at all."

"You bastard! You're just like your father, Zac! You ruin other people's happiness and mess things up! You shouldn't have come back."

Zac? Had Abby not heard wrong? Was this man Zachary Emerson? If so, then indeed, he had arrived. He was the crown prince anyway.

The young man looked calm, as if nothing could disturb him.

"Go home. Your defeat is no one's responsibility. Come on, this is the business world. There will be profit and loss, and I don't believe that is not my fault. You're the one who should have been careful."

"Her too!" The drunk man pointed at Abby. "That bitch never lets me sleep well."

Zachary looked in the direction the man was pointing, but he found no one there.

Where had the girl gone? Why did she leave like a demon before Zac could even say anything? She didn't even say thank you after Zac saved her.

Unbelievable.

***

A dapper-looking man dressed in a silver suit with a black shirt looked charming. Sharp eyes adorned with bushy eyelashes and eyebrows and neatly combed brownish hair completed the excellent looks of the owner of a chiseled jaw.

He stood and chatted with the others amongst the soft jazz music, waiting for the master of ceremonies to take the stage and call his name to the podium.

However, his heart was rumbling right now. He was still thinking about the woman he had saved from the drunk man who had nearly ruined the party and had disappeared suddenly from his sight.

No thanks, no goodbyes.

If she was leaving just like that, what was her purpose in coming here? She must have wanted to witness his appointment as the CEO and owner of Emers Corp's subsidiary.

She must not be an ordinary guest who just came for fun.

"Who's that woman?" muttered Zac, causing some of the colleagues he was talking to to frown.

Zac could no longer hold back and pretended to be engrossed in the conversation between himself and the guests. He was curious to the point of insanity. The girl had caught his attention, especially since the drunk guy disliked her.

The party was in full swing when someone stepped into the hall where the event was being held.

A woman with a velvet evening gown wrapped around her body entered the hall. Her luscious lips were polished with light pink lipstick, adding to her charm and beauty. All eyes were riveted as she walked in, not least Zachary Emerson—the crown prince of Emers Corp. He didn't even want to blink and miss her presence. If only he didn't remember that he already had a girlfriend, then he would have gone to the charming figure.

Besides, let's not forget the woman owed him a debt of gratitude.

Abby was now amongst the others and didn't want to mingle with the other guests. She again chose a spot a little further away, circulating her gaze from the corner of the room that was bustling with lilting music.

She had not forgotten the tragedy of the drunk man who almost embarrassed her.

She just watched how the party was going and what the crown prince of Emers Corp looked like, who was being talked about, especially by women. Maybe she can establish a good relationship in terms of business.

Not long after, Abby's hopes were realized. Garry Emerson, the owner of Emers Corp, took the stage, proudly introducing his son, who would serve as CEO of his own company and a subsidiary of Emers Corp.

"I will introduce my proud heir to my genes. He, who has been taking care of his company in Saint Orleans while studying for his master's degree, has finally started to open his mind to return and care for his old father." All the guests burst into laughter at Garry's joke. "Come here, son. Zachary Emerson. He's my son."

The Zachary Emerson mentioned by the portly man then came forward, greeted by the cheers of several young men who looked like his best friends.

Others accompanied Zachary's steps with loud applause. But not Abigail. She turned around and stepped out of the party room before confirming what Zachary Emerson looked like from a close distance and talking about many things to him. She changed her mind and chose to leave the event.

After all, she had seen Zac up close a few hours ago. So, that was enough curiosity for today.

At least she had filled out the guest book and told them the number they might call her later. For now, she wanted to be alone.
