Chapter 47 - Clean slate

I was falling down, I could hear screaming, likely Nat's. Surprisingly, I wasn't scared; this was part of my plan to throw the men off guard. However, even with that thought, I knew the impending impact at this dangerous height was undeniable.

Closing my eyes, bracing for the impact, I expected to hit the hard ground. To my surprise, my body encountered a steady yet warm surface. Opening my eyes, I found Alex panting hard against my ears. He had caught me.

"Jesus! What... are you okay?" he asked with concern.

“Yes, I think so," I replied as I sat up from his arms, turning to him. "Are you?" I questioned.

Sighing, he expressed concern, "Jesus, Sophie, what were you thinking jumping like that? Are you trying to-"

"Fuck that, there is no time," I cut him off. Without wasting any time, I picked up the short gun and the gun Alex was holding.

"What—" he started to say, confused by my swift actions.
