I left Janna at the clearing with the rest of the group.

Dad asked me to meet him at the small pavilion beside the training building. He said he had something important to tell me before the run.

If he joined the run, he would be the only one running without a mate, and my heart was in pain at the thought of my father being alone, especially now that I have my own mate.

I knew how it felt to be the only one without someone.

"Dad!" I called out as I stepped inside the pavilion.

My eyes scanned the area until I found him standing with his hands in his pockets as he looked at the view outside.

"You wanted to talk? Is there something wrong?" I asked as I approached where he stood.

He turned around and smiled at me, something that didn't reach his eyes. I knew my father to be a confident man, and he didn't feel like one right now. "No. I just thought I would let you know before the run. I wanted to tell you beforehand,
