Chapter 70

As she trudged through the wet forest to his place, her mind ran amok with thoughts. She'd tried calling him but his line was switched off. Had he maybe gone to the shop to see Anna, then met Daphne and decided to stay and talk? Was that what the text meant? Though she felt cold and wet from the drizzles of the rain, she pushed through and kept trudging. Upon getting to his place, she went up the porch stairs, shook off whatever water droplets she could from her skin, and knocked. 

No response.

She shuddered as the cold breeze kissed her wet body and knocked again.

Still no response. Maybe he really wasn't home. Deciding to ensure, she placed her thumb on the scanner and the door flipped open. She walked into the dark living room and looked around.

No sign of him.

Next stop, Anna's shop.
