They were being fired at by a hail of heavy gunfire. Many soldiers in Jabez’s team were killed on the spot. At this point, the previously confident soldiers had retreated wretchedly.

Yet, Jabez and the rest of his foes ran away too quickly, Marshal Nelson and his forces decided to give up trying to catch up with their adversaries because they would enter the enemy's territory by doing so.
