Chapter Twenty-Four

The howl of an enraged wolf broke Ray out of his shocked state. He looked up to see Dallas in shifted form rushing towards one of the pack houses. Ray’s heart lurched when he noticed that the house was already on fire. But what really alarmed him was the sound of a small pup crying for her mother. The pup was still inside the burning building.

Ray raced over to the house and rushed inside, making his way up the stairs to where he could hear the child crying her heart out. The heat from the fire was starting to get to him, but he needed to get to the little girl. Why was she still inside the house when everyone else was making their way to the main pack house? Where were her parents?

The child’s cries grew louder the closer Ray got to the room he assumed she was in. The door was closed. Not wanting to risk burning himself by touching the door handle that he knew would be hot from the fire, he yelled for anyone in the room to step away from the bedroom door.
