Kalyana wiped her cheek, turned her head around with an awkward smile. “Sorry, I got carried away with emotion,” she said. “I was hoping I could be here with Armand.”

Rajata cleared his throat softly. “Want to accompany me shopping for jackets again?” he offered.

Kalyana smiled weakly. “I don't want to!” she said in a slightly trembling voice. “I don't want to carry your grocery bag!”

Rajata chuckled, then fell silent, also looked up at the rooftops in the distance.

Kalyana took a deep breath then threw it out loud.

“Want to try screaming?” murmured Rajata.

“We are not supposed to make noise in this country, Ta,” Kalyana said hoarsely.

Rajata looked down and around. “Nobody is here,” he continued muttering.

Kalyana once again took a deep breath. “You bastard, Mand!” she shouted out loud. “Such a jerk!”

Rajata jumped a little in surprise, turned to look at his friend, smiling.
