After a few seconds had passed, I opened my eyes carefully, shocked that I had not yet felt the impact of the slap on my face.

It was a shock to me, and I was surprised to see that it was not even a slap in the first place.

With a finger pointed at Cynthia, he began to speak.

“You are doing an appalling job of watching this other maid. You have come here many times before, and you know how I feel about other people touching my things.”

Cynthia colored and smoothed down her skirt, stammering through a greeting.
