Chapter 12

None of us said a word.

Only the clanging of the silverware was heard throughout the dining hall, the sound echoing off the walls in a seemingly endless loop. I kept stealing glances at him from my seat and he seemed focused only on his food. He appeared to be deep in thought, and no matter how much I wanted to talk to him, it felt as if nothing would break this trance-like state we are in.

Also, I don't know what to say to him. This uncomfortable silence is leaving me feeling apathetic and helpless. After asking me out for dinner, I thought he would do most of the talking; it's been his behavior from the start. My mind feels flooded with a million thoughts as my gaze shifts between him and his appearance - trying to make sense of our situation. Though he appears calm, I can tell that something has been bothering him.
