035 In His Arms

Her prediction failed.

The silver wolf sped up his last few steps and kicked the ground with his last step to jump up towards them.

Kitty finally understood why he was called The Silver Lightning -- he was FAST! Comparing to his movement, Kitty felt like her legs were just running in slow motion.

Well, running is running. Kitty didn't stop her steps and just as she passed -- well, as the silver shadow passed her, she heard a huge bang from a crash coming from behind her.

She ran another 20 meters before she dared look back, and the silver wolf was on top of the brown wolf who was now struggling under his paws but failed in vain.

Erebus took his throat under his claw, hard.

It didn't take too long before the wolf under his claw fainted and returned to his human form. Erebus took his claw off the tiny body lying on the ground, but he didn't move, or even turn to look at Kitty.

Was he mad at me? Kitty froze where she was, hesitating on what to do next.

Not long before a few wolves came from the direction Erebus appeared, and they surrounded the body on the ground, waiting. Erebus took a few steps away from them, but he hesitated a bit and then turned to ran away.

Kitty wanted to ran towards him but she didn't know how. Why did he leave like that, without even talk to her? But if he hated her, then why did he come in the first place? She felt tears filling up her eyes, and she didn't even know if she had the right to feel wronged.

She was the one who pushed him away. It was only right if he was mad at her.

Kitty wiped her face with her sleeve and turned to run, only to hear a shout coming from behind: "Kitty!"

Kitty stopped and turned to look, Erebus was right beside the pack of wolves, dressed in a suit. The shout was from him!

Did he just go to change?!

Kitty didn't know whether to laugh at him, or laugh at the fact that she just cried over such a small thing. But as Kitty started to walk towards him, she realized he wasn't actually looking at her. He stood there with an unsured look, as if he couldn't see her!

Kitty's steps slowed down. She didn't know what to make of the weird action of him.

Erebus stood there for a few seconds and then pulled out his phone, talking as he instructing the wolves and some men came in a car right after the few wolves to take the killer on the ground away.

Did he really call out to her? Was that just her hallucination? Kitty walked slower and slower, and finally, she stopped, a few steps away from Erebus.

The car took the killer away, and Erebus ended the phone call. He turned to where Kitty was standing one last time as if just checking without hope, and that was when he suddenly yelled: "Kitty!"

Kitty stood right where she was, quiet and confused.

Erebus ran towards her and stopped only one or two steps away: "Are you alright? Are you hurt? Kitty?"

He WAS Erebus.

He was still the gentle god that took her under his wing! The wolf who had been taking care of her ever since they met, the alpha who had cared for her in all the way capable of him, who endured her for whatever unreasonable actions she took, who came to her rescue just because half of a phone call!

"Erebus!" Kitty yelled as she threw herself into his arms and cried on his shoulder. She wasn't even that scared when she was WITH the Killer. But she was so overwhelmed with all the happiness and sadness she had been going through about Erebus that she just wanted to cry them all out to him.

And the best part was, she KNEW, he would accept her.

"I knoww... I'm sorry, Kitty. It's okay now. You are safe now..." His deep, soft voice seemed to have taken all her fear and worries away. The bit roughness in his voice only made her feel safer.

He only knew how fulfilling it was to mark someone and to take care of them; he only knew how happy he got after he met her just because she smiled at a flower; what he didn't know, was how good it was to be appreciated by her. Being taken into her arms was the best feeling he ever had in his life.

He felt her trust from her hug, and at that moment, nothing seemed to be too much a price to pay for that one touch from her.

"Why are, are YOU sorry..." Kitty sobbed as she asked.

"I'm sorry I didn't protect you better. None of these should have happened. I'm really grateful that you are in my arms right now, unharmed." Erebus took her up in his arms and let Kitty's legs go around his waist so she could sit on his arms, "Don't ever scare me like that again."

"Are you mad at me?" Kitty asked with her arms around his neck.

"Nooo, of course not, silly. Why would I be mad at you?" Erebus rubbed her back with one of his hands, and it soothed Kitty well.

"You left me! You left..." Kitty pouted, realizing there were tears once again running down her face when those words were out of her. She didn't know there was so much sadness in her because his leaving.

"Nooo, I would never! I will NEVER leave you, my little kitten. I left the bar because I took a room at the hotel. I only wanted to spend more time with you." Erebus took the best chance to break that news to her.

"Really?" Kitty didn't even care about the fact that Erebus rented another room all year round at a sky-high price right after he gave her the room in the name of he"never uses it, really."

"Really, really." Erebus said, hugging her tight so that she could feel his existence, right there with her, "So... is it okay if I buy you another phone?"

Kitty burst into laughter, but she pushed Erebus on the chest and said with a pout: "Why did you ignore me back then?"

"I didn't..." Erebus looked confused.

"You ran away after you saved me! Did you really just leave for cloth?"

"Ohh! Well, part of that, yes. I cannot stay in my wolf form for too long in the city. A silver wolf is just an attention-attractor. Besides, I think," He turned so Kitty could see the street she just ran onto, "I think this area is protected by a spell just for you."

"Wait, what?" Kitty exclaimed.

"See that line? I couldn't see you once you pass that line. But I can cross it, and I can see other people when they pass it too. Whoever it was that cast that spell, I'm grateful for them." Erebus said in a earnest tone, as if sending his gratitude to some invisible person right in front of them.

"I thought..." Kitty got only one word into that sentence before she realized her face flushed with bashfulness.

"What did you think?" Erebus gave her a mischievous smile and started teasing her.

"Nothing!" Kitty turned her head and hid her face on his shoulder, not wanting to admit how much his action affects her.

"Haha..." Erebus burst into laughter, tightening his hug for a second, and gazed into her eyes: "I'll never leave you. That's a promise."
