CHAPTER 38

"HEY! Jessica! The water I drew is mine but you used it to take a bath?! I hate you! I'll be late for school. It's the first day of school! Argh!" Lara shouted at their youngest sister.

Their youngest sister just rolled her eyes, unperturbed by Lara's outburst. "You know, sister. I didn't have a shower yesterday because of the disconnection of water. Well, you take a bath every day. So don't be selfish." This is Jessica's reasoning.

Her mother scolded her sisters for constantly fighting. "I told you to stop, but you can't listen to your mother! You're always late, and it's the first day of school today. The noise you make will make our neighbors angry. We've only been here for a few weeks, and we could get evicted if we don't quiet down!"

It's been almost three weeks since Estella left Lucius' life for good, and the pain and heartbreak she feels are still very fresh in her mind.
