Dani woke with a sore back and a crick in her neck. She'd called and traded a shift after she got Reece settled the night before and realized she had a fever. Reece was clingy when she was sick, always had been, so Dani had spent the night curled in the twin sized bed with her daughter, who slept sideways in her bed and kicked hard.

She poked her head up when she heard a soft knock and saw Nate looking in on them. "How's the patient?"

"Finally sleeping."

"Did she not get much sleep?"

"Off and on," she whispered as she removed her daughter from her arm and got up. With a kiss to the forehead, she moved the hair off her face and left her to sleep.

Rubbing the back of her neck as she walked down the hall, she headed toward the kitchen to find some coffee. She would need it to make it through the day, but when she got there, the pot was full and waiting for her.

"I figured you might need it," he told her from the other side of the counter.

"Listen
